I just proposed the idea of the city being protected under the Ideas/Suggestions forum. The protection is mostly to ease the burden on the mods who would be called in daily to roll back griefed sections of the city.

There has also been talk (at least from the Ceteri people) of making PvP toggleable. I'm not too keen on this personally and would feel that it would be pushing the requests a bit too much.
You would also have to make your own portal in the city, otherwise some guy could randomly make a portal and it would spawn a portal in the middle of someones house.

I support Intelli making certain areas protected, but someone would have to own the plot so s/he could add builders and people with permissions to access chests and whatnot. However, I dont think Intelli would want to open the can of worms though of making protected nether areas because then everyone would want one, perhaps Intelli would personally own the plot, then have the mods be co-owners who could add/remove people?

That would be a great idea, if the staff would agree to it. On the downside, it would require more time and effort from them than the idea of just setting up a protected area and leaving it up to other players to run things (and more time/effort requested from staff = less chance of having the request granted).

might give Stimson's idea a chance. Considering the griefing complaints that would inevitably happen if the project begins without support from the staff, that idea might require the least input from mods (other than a flat-out refusal to punish/rollback griefing in the area).

As for making PvP toggleable, I agree that it's too much to ask. Having one small area of the nether treated like the overworld for PvP purposes, while leaving the rest of the nether unchanged, would probably take a lot of programming time, I'd imagine.

+1 on this idea.

A protected city would be nice, a place where you don't have to worry about running into some 1x1 lava pit because someone dug straight down.

I feel the city should start at 0, 0 in the Nether, that way it can be a literal and figurative central hub of the Nether. Also, it should be maybe 1/8 the size of what was considered a "spawn realm" in the overworld, that way no portals pop up in the city because fire is disabled in those spawn realms. Though this may cause the city to be a lot smaller.

My location and ideas or not, this seems like a great idea and I fully support this to be implemented.

I'd be fine with building the city at 0,0 if it meets the requirements. Ideally, I'd wanna build it from either bedrock to bedrock or lava to bedrock with plenty of open space around it. We'll have to poke around when the Nether wipes and the roads are up to see what we have to work with.

A quick suggestion, use TNT to hollow out the area. Set a charge then have it create a huge area where the city could be built.

It's not gonna be "run" by any one group. The city will be neutral ground with each faction getting equal representation.
