Personally I'd only support filtering 6 of Carlin's 7 words plus racially derogatory words that always only a put-down. Further, there should be a list of the words so we can know what we can't say. I ONLY support this because Minecraft doesn't have an option to censor chat itself, it falls to the servers to do it.
Actually, I'd rather see the whole chat filter system changed.
/chat filter (on|off)
/report <user> swearing
This would allow you to turn on or off the chat filter. You see filtered words in a specific color so you know what was filtered for those with the option turned on. You can check for the list of banned words (if you have the chat filter off) by doing /chat filter list.
The banned words are filtered just as they are now with asterisks for those with the chat filter on.
Then the only warning/banable offense would be to purposely attempting to circumvent the filter (with spaces or special characters etc). It's always seemed strange to me that we both filter 'bad' words AND ban for them. If nobody saw the word, why would the user be banned?
If you're just spelling everything correctly and not trying to get past the filter, you'll never accidentally circumvent the filter.
If you see a person attempting to get passed the filter and there's no staff on, you could /report <user> and a ticket is sent to either the forum and/or staff with a recording of the last 5 minutes of the chat. If it was a deliberate attempt to bypass the filter, the user is warned with a 1 day ban for the 1st offense. 7 day ban for the 2nd. And 6 month ban for the 3rd. (offenses lasting ~6 months or at admin discretion).
