Since when was minecraft about this? Minecraft has always labeled itself as a game where the goal is surviving. Collecting resources and building things are things that you can do in this game, but at the end of the day this game is about survival.

Mobs don't damage blocks and don't do all that much damage to players since the server is set to easy/default. You can't starve to death. You don't have to sleep in a bed to set your spawn point and then worry about your bed getting blown up and having to trek across the map to get back to your stuff. Want to meet up with your friends? Just do /spawn, no need to travel to them. Once you dig and place enough blocks you can keep your stuff safe and even before then no one is allowed to loot your stuff that you leave in an unprotected area. And you even have a secure place to pass items to one another and then get right back to what you're doing via /trade.

But... if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time (which you can't predict other than night is falling) now someone can kill you and take your stuff. Might as well turn off block protection during the mist and allow looting til sunrise.

Increasing the chance for unwanted pvp increases the chance for more hard feelings between players which degrades the feeling of community on the server without doing much to increase the overall survival aspect of the server.

Lol, trust me I've been on this server to know what it is about. If minerealm wasn't about survival, he would bring back the creative server.

That's actually a terrible idea. There is a huge difference between PVP and flat out destroying stuff. People would not just destroy stuff to loot. They would destroy stuff just to destroy stuff. Everything around spawn would look terrible. The forum would be flooded with people complaining and asking for a rollback. All of this is assuming you were serious with turning off block protection.

I listed my reasons why I feel survival is not truly at the core of this server to rebutt your point, not because I don't think you know how things work on Minerealm. I was making a point. As I was with the comment about block protection. In my view there is not much difference between a griefer and someone who attacks another player without provocation just to take their stuff, without regard for how it detracts from their victim's enjoyment of the game.

I don't particularly like PVP either, but it's been quite rare for a really long time (IMO, basically since NTC was banned). Lately, the part of the nether near spawn has been the only place where you have a substantial risk of being ganked.

The mist makes PVP extremely one-sided, though, since anyone who dies respawns unarmed and helpless. It would be nice if during the mist, spawning was spread out over a small area in the middle of the spawn realms rather than continuing to funnel people to a single point. Not sure how feasible that kind of a change would be, but it would give non-PVPers a small chance to run while requiring the PVPers to chase after their targets.

Actually to add on to this. A pvp tagging system should be added, so players who get involved in pvp during the mist cannot /spawn, /trade, or get natural spawn protection after being pvp tagged for a certain amount of time.

I was sceptical at first, seeing people logging in the first time and get insta-killed. But after a few more "mists" I like it pretty much. It brings some of the missed survival feeling back, today the majority is running around in diamond armor and weapons (fully enchanted of course). If a creeper comes by we just wave and take advantage of the "mega-jump" their explosions cause. Now you have to be awake at all time, build shelters where others dont have access to and always keep an eye on the current time when you are trading.

I see that this can went into a wrong direction over time (spawn camping groups, "raiding" etc) but I'm sure if thats the case, Intelli will be able to handle it in a good way.
