I hope I'm making a valid analogy here. If not, I'll leave it to the naysers to tell me what's wrong.
Imagine I dislike corn. If I go to a restaurant and the only version of a few dishes I like that they serve contains corn, I'll be disappointed but not upset; I'll just order another dish. But if every single dish has corn in it, I'm going to be ticked off.
Going back to my previous posts in this thread, there is global and constant pvp in the nether. The nether is a whole dimension. It has netherrack, quartz, lava, blaze grinders, and it's a fast way to travel.
Yes, people lose out if they don't go in the Nether. But that's their choice. They can stay out of it if they wish and still have fun playing.
If you want the entire minecraft (and minerealm) experience, you need to have at least visited the nether. Therefore, pvp is not entirely avoidable even without the mist.
But what if a player doesn't want the entire Minecraft experience? What if she just wants to build and mine in the peaceful overworld?
Why has nobody suggested pvp be removed from the nether? Isn't it dangerous? Someone could kill you and take your gear at any moment. Just imagine how simple it would be to pop in the spawn portal and be on your way to your far off base. You can't do that now. You can't do that ever. What's the difference between the nether and the mist?
dlgn wrote:Those are entirely different situations. People who don't like PVP can simply avoid the Nether. It isn't too hard. The Mist, on the other hand, is unavoidable, uncontrollable, and unpredictable. It takes away the choice that makes MineRealm unique.
There is
nowhere you can go to avoid The Mist. Avoiding the Nether will cut out a lot of gameplay, but it's
themed gameplay. The whole point of the Nether is that it's dangerous. It has low ambient light, there are monsters and lava everywhere, and there are few resources available to help with survival. Enabling PVP is just another way to increase the Nether's danger factor.
The Overworld of MineRealm, on the other hand, has long been safe from forced PVP, and it's something that people have come to expect, as it differentiates MineRealm from always-PVP servers and makes it far easier for large groups of players to collaborate safely. Granted, this hasn't been occurring very much lately, but the Mist will, if anything, make the problem worse. Remember back in 3.0 when there were people swarming about Spawn like ants? Remember Operation OP? Had The Mist existed in the days when MineRealm was lively, it would have been catastrophic, and now it serves as another barrier to prevent the exciting atmosphere of those days from returning.
To Jack's rant, I don't want my posts or any in this thread to feel like a personal attack against you. I want everyone to know that this is all a friendly debate. Though, some people are threatening to leave this community. I understand, but that's not a friendly way to go about things, particularly for a server that you love.
For a lot of us, eah, the "love" part has been decreasing. Now, I'm not leaving, but I've been having less and less fun and fewer good times on MineRealm lately. I don't know why, really, but it's just the way things are. For some, The Mist is just the last straw. They aren't threatening, eah, they're warning Intelli that it's a bad idea because it will drive people away and asking him to remove it for their sake.
