iron farms are perfectly legit

what next, stop mobs from dropping things all together to stop farming?
auto-farming is a big part of Minecraft. Why would you want to take this away? This makes iron a renewable resource, which would really help out. Anyway, why do you care how other people play the game? If you don't like the iron farming, just keep on mining.

Those of us who did the work to find and protect testificates this long, and buy the realms, deserve the legit benefits. In 1.2 they can be bred to make more by adding houses! it would take quite a bit of work for the iron farm, and well its worth it. This "problem" was well aware to jeb, but he decided not to remove it. If minerealm wants to continue to call itself "vanilla", it should not manipulate the game.

Jeb was aware of the problem, and didn't do anything about it. Iron farms are still entirely possible!

What exactly is wrong with mob farming so long as the drop rates are controlled to ensure nobody gains an unfair advantage over others? Why not have it as an option? This is a sandbox game after all, and we can farm wheat and melons - why not mob drops in the same way?

It's not like mob drops are rare either, or give a huge advantage. Farming spider string - well, that would allow a player to make lots of bows or fishing rods, not exactly a big boon over everyone else who doesn't farm them. Rotten Meat...no, not really. The only item that may be an advantage (aside from iron golems) is arrows from skeletons, and once you get a decent chicken ranch and gravel farm those become very plentiful too, so that's no real advantage there.

And it's not like there's a shortage of dungeons too, so anyone can take up farming mobs if they choose. One person cannot monopolise all dungeons on a map to get the advantage that way.

you should make a poll, and see what the community thinks about this. I'm sure they will agree to keep it vanilla by not removing intended functionality!!

Perhaps there could be a requirement to make any iron farms available to the public, because otherwise it would be a pretty huge advantage for a small number of players who own villages. I could see allowing totally private iron farms if buying villages had been a strategic decision they made to try getting an iron farm... I see no need to reward the dumb luck involved in buying a structure that didn't have any strategic use at the time. Making the farms bannable altogether would be unfortunate IMO; the chance to make iron a renewable resource is an improvement to the game.

Also, "LOL_IRON" should stop using an alt account on the forums and have the guts to at least post ideas under his/her minecraft username, like the rest of the community.

I don't really see it as a huge issue.. it's not like iron is rare, or really even valuable. I've got stacks upon stacks of iron blocks, at least a stack of em each time I go mining. Iron is everywhere.. I don't see how this would upset some economic balance.

Make Slimes-farms and netherwart farms bannable!
Make cow farms and sheep farms bannable!
Make chicken farms, and mob farms bannable!

Yes it's iron, but you can sell Slimes and Netherwart for more credits then you can iron, and they aren't banned.

Yes it's obviously a steady stream with unlimited iron, but actually obtaining the villagers, and setting up a proper farm would take forever. Just like a fast slime farm, or a fast netherwart farm.

It is fair. Everyone is just mad because they wouldn't have the materials and/or time to make a properly working Iron Farm.

Iron is already very common, and farming iron golems would be slow going as they have absurd health and only drop a couple ingots at a time. A farm like the one in the video Flanny posted wouldn't be anywhere near even remotely possible in SMP, especially this server. A few people will make a moderately small amount of extra credits from spending all day farming golems. That won't crash the economy.
