I hope AVO doesn't read our forums. they take a look at this and go challenge accepted.

I'm for A by the way. Realms are great, but it's hard to tell if people are actually on the server if they stay like a hermit in their realm. Plus chest protection ensures a security beyond your "trusted" realm members who kick you out just to loot you...

If the realm system is removed, I really don't care how you slice it, the server will be no different than any other server in the world.

I'm strongly against the removal of the realm system. I don't even mind a lack of visitors. Its that lack of protection I hate. I like being able to build with every kind of block; not horde them for fear of griefers and thieves. I don't care if there's per player rollbacks. That, I swear to God, will be abused, and sounds way too iffy on being able to totally identify who and what happened.

Realms, please.
But if he puts in the country system, it would be the most unique thing I have ever seen on Minecraft. Honestly, realms is basically just like towny, or villages, or any of those other mods. The plot-by-plot system he mentioned is incredibly unique. I vote countries. I like all the ideas mentioned in the OP of Minerealm 3.0 discussion thread.

Dragon, countries was neat, but I think it deserves its own server. I for one do not want my Risk with my Minecraft.

On to thoughts.

The reason the first survival map worked, I believe, is because of its enormity. The server, being so gargantuan, allowed for towns to be so spread out griefers never found them. I remember my town, Tinderbox, was off the map, so no one ever found it unless told where it was. Akatsuki_Member and I were it's founders basically, and we pulled in about four other friends, and it was awesome.

(Although I did burn my entire five story house down then... BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY.)

The server was awesome then because it really felt like a world. It had defining cultures, from nomadic desert people to towns folk to tribal master architects (did anyone see Hydro and B_Ran's cacti fortress?) The second map was good when the original map was corrupted, and held similar server sizes, but it still didn't have the beauty and amazing flare of the one with the first Tinderbox and Frogtown.

Essentially, I believe if you want to have a world without realms again, it needs to be just that. So massive it's a world, not a 5k by 5k server. And then shrink the map on the website back down to only cover the innards of the map; that's how it used to be, and it worked well.

So basically.

World without realms: Massive, with smaller map.

World with realms: Medium, with full map.

I absolutely loved the massive server, with the unmapped regions it held. It felt like an adventure, like I had to keep tabs on everything with my memory. And I did, and I got to where I could travel to Tinderbox without even looking at the map. It felt like an accomplishment every time I did it. It doesn't feel that way anymore, yet the protection the realm system offers is pretty sweet.

Yeah I think that no realms would be neat. It offers free building, and with the anti-griefing, it offers free, SAFE building. This current realm system is too uniform.

Will we have two /home's?

Your forefathers had a single /home, and so shall you.

I'd just like to see a gargantuan server with a small map if we go back to no realms. That would make it fantastic.

Oh, Cog, I remember when we didn't have any kind of warps, that was kinda fun.

Kress, for once I truly agree with you. If we get rid of realms (which we would still have griefing protection) we need a really big map. It just makes everything a bit more real. You pretty much said it in your post. Nicely said.
