The problem is that they are an entity, and are treated the same way as mobs by Intelli's mob mechanism. Basically, they are like an animal, all flattened out, then shoved on a wall. Unfortunately, that's animal cruelty, and none of us want that.

In a sense this. They don't register as a block and are not protected by the block protections. Getting them to a point where they were protected would take a bunch of coding I seriously doubt Intelli would want to bother with. Don't expect paintings back any time soon.
