Sounds like a good possibility, Minecraft definately could do with some ball physics, but this could be a good replacement.
I think there is a football pitch somewhere on survival. Again if it uses drops, it'll have to be survival.
Here it is, I'm sure it would be relatively easy to get rid of the arcade style to make it fit our needs, if needed.

Looks plausible, would you be interested in having a go at building it?

Update: I upgraded the main area, added a big main area and moved the archery range out of the way.

Made it myself!
