It is more fun to be in groups. A faction is pretty much the same as a town. It is not cutting off from everyone else, I actually talk to everyone on the server more than just my faction sometimes.

It does, but to some extent that may be the point of it. Minecraft is not a particularly difficult game, so having factions to join (and, by extension, other factions to compete against) can add an element of challenge to the game.

Unless a faction really goes overboard *cough*NTC*cough* on the antagonism towards other players or groups, I don't think the divisions within the community are so bad as to make players truly hate each other.

People just need to make their factions a lot more unique.

Personally, I like Arcane because it's a PvP faction with only a few members - I don't like factions where you don't even know people are in said faction.
