I have a suggestion I think might improve things.

Is it possible to increase the spawn rate and allowable mobs in the nether by say 200-400%. If you increased the spawn rate and mob counts in the Nether, especially for the large mobs like the ghast, It would make it far more dangerous for those that would camp the nether and cause a great deal of the whining. It would require no code changes or mods and it would make the nether exactly what everyone says they want it to be...a dangerous place to stay for any period of time.

Seems like a good idea to me. Also seems like it has a good chance of being implemented, since changes to the nether typically revolve around making it more dangerous (e.g. eliminating PVP restrictions, making pigmen always hostile).

Nether is already dangerous with the pigmen being permanently angry n all, most people avoid it unless going for pvp

My point is that it's not particularly dangerous unless you specifically wander off of the roadways that have been built. There's no real danger to those that go into the nether and stand near the portals because they clear out the few mobs near the portal then just stand in the same area. I figure more mobs and a faster respawn would increase the danger of staying in the nether.

The only other option I can think of to make it dangerous is to set a standing rule that a 50x50x10 area around the nether portals must be flat and open with no cover, no walls just a flat open area for the mobs to have a clear view.

Anyone entering the nether would then know to hit the ground running and anyone staying in the nether would have a constant risk.

I was setting up a portal that connected to the one in my house and subsequently got murdered by ghasts about 5 times while attempting to build a platform over a lake of lava that the portal happened to go. That being said, this is an amazing idea. I felt like most of the time, I had free reign over the nether regions of the nether (hah...) when it would be more appropriate to bring an amount of fear with the convenience of the nether.

Ghasts can't get you in the spawn area though.
