I'm glad the idea proposed in this thread was rejected, but I have a feeling that I won't like whatever property tax system ends up getting implemented...
If one goal of implementing a property tax is to take credits out of circulation, this could be done by any number of methods that don't involve automatically bleeding players' funds dry. For example, reducing the number of credits for which realms could be sold to the server would accomplish this.
If a goal of having a property tax is to discourage players from buying realms they don't really need/want, this too could be accomplished by less irritating methods. As I previously mentioned, this could be done by bringing back the "place or remove ____ blocks in a realm before you're allowed to buy it" system. The same thing could be accomplished by establishing a rule that newly purchased realms must be built upon within a certain time limit.
Heck, even something as simple as increasing the purchase price of a public realm (without a corresponding increase in resale value) would accomplish both of those objectives.
The Greymarch has ended.
