This test is kind of pointless though...

The closer the server is to you the lower the ping. I don't know where the minerealm server is located but it would make more sense to pick that location if you want to know your ping time to the minerealm server. If you pick the server closest to you, ofcourse it will have a small ping.

Browsing through the comments when I saw this, that's a tad inaccurate / misleading Samuel.

Common ping relation from America to Germany is 80-300. The most average is 140 (based on collective tests pinging from FPS game servers in the two areas).

Common ping relation from America to America is 3-200. The most average is 30-40 (" ").

In theory, someone from america could have a 150 ping on a german server, and a 150 ping on an american server. Shattering the distance theory. However, in light of your theory, the odds are higher that you will have a better ping on a server closer to you. There's just no literal assurance, what with the way packet jumping works.

More amazingly, even some of the highest speed connections will receive delayed packets for numerous reasons, most of which will cause choppy gameplay, which is common in Minecraft servers when connecting from a whole Continent away.

And to think they told me years of Moderating German-based FPS servers wouldn't come in handy...
