Do I really need to say it again?

The map is never wiping

If we use the entire map.... Just saying say 50% of realms are purchased and the rest is used as a mining ground type thing, would you just expand the land past the 10k X 10k?

I think that would be the logical thing to do.

I think eventually people will want a wipe, for now i'm just waiting until more people do.

I personally am in favor of keeping the current 10k by 10k area intact and expanding beyond the current borders. Seeing how the playerbase continues to grow we will need some more space sooner or later IMO.

Eventually, if the map never wipes, all land will be bought causing economic meltdown and huge lack of resources. So eventually there will have to be a wipe. It could take an incredibly long time, but a wipe is imminent.

This word imminent, I do not think it means what you think it means.

My idea's pretty dumb I'm sure, but if the map ever were to be expanded past the limits it has now, perhaps at first only donors should be able to go beyond the border into the expanded map? Good way to get donations from players that want fresh, untouched land to explore/mine, and much too far out there for new players to walk all the way too and ruin the landscape with ugly giant walls and stuff, like you can find plenty of throughout the map now. After the new land has been explored by donators pretty thoroughly, then open up the borders to all?

I don't know, it just seems like a good plan of action to introduce newer features in Minecraft as they're released, without having to wipe the map. Plus, it'd bring in actual revenue for the server via the donations, and hey, this could be repeated every few months or so. Like adding another 500 blocks in all directions each time to the limits of the map. I don't know about you guys, but I'd love to explore some jungle biomes and any other future features Minecraft has to offer.

That's true, but as we talk people are gradually advancing towards there.
also, If you look at the MR map you have to conclude that the population density is quite high. I foresee a situation in the future where this density my start to irritate the playerbase.

what arguments are there for not expanding it?

some would say it causes lag, but I think we'll be alright. I've played on a server with comparable specs and a comparable amount of players online, and yet this server had a 120k by 120k map.
Of course that's quite enormous and we won't need that much space. I think however that expanding to about 20 by 20 will safeguard the availability of free land and plentiful resources for a long time to come.
