Due to the increase in extraneous commenting on ban appeals, we have decided to resume the policy of only allowing useful, on topic comments in the ban section. This means that the only people allowed to post there are those who are either:
A) The person banned
B) Someone with direct knowledge of the situation
C) A member of the staff.

Note, that generic "I support this appeal because he is a good person" messages do not qualify as pertinent information.

This policy will be enforced through liberal usage of the ban hammer.

But in theory, public preference shouldn't play a role in these decisions. More importantly, IMO, is that ban appeals have traditionally turned into flame wars between the banned player's friends and enemies.

It also becomes very hard to find relevant posts in the 15 page appeal that some people seem to end up with.

Steps (bans) have been taken to correct this situation. Due to a busy schedule, I will probably do sweeps through the ban section every once in a while and hit everyone in one go.
