Ok, I hate depth fog with the fury of a thousand exploding stars. It is by far the worst thing added into minecraft and it's a pain to work in.

So I've a very simple request/suggestion for the Powers That Be: A plugin that eliminates Depth Fog. Take it back to before there was Depth Fog, back when you could see as far as your computer could render and as far as there was lights placed.

The fog is actually from The Void (The death area opposite of Bedrock).
Void fog was added to the beta 1.8 update so that The Void would appear black instead of sky color. This graph shows the maximum view distance due to the fog.
The render distance with Void/Depth Fog.

As for client mods, I know Optifine has a way to turn off the fog, but apparently it gives an advantage over other players and is, at least, frowned upon (the option is).

Silsu, you're right about the anti-fog option on optifine breaking the rule of no mods, as it give an advantage to specific players, which is why i voted yes on the poll, however i'm not too bothered either way

I don't see how shutting off fog on a ground layer is giving any sort of advantage....I do't think there are many bedrock pvp arena's around. It was a crappy addition and it needs to be removed from the game.

I think the idea is that while exploring deep cave systems, you can see for a longer distance in areas that lack fog--removing it would give an advantage in mining for rare materials, notably diamonds. But I find it annoying, and would like it to be no more.

One thing I'm wondering about though... could this serve as an anti-xray type of feature? It doesn't seem to be too severe until you get to a depth near where diamonds are found...

Actually, this has been said, by Jeb, that it'l be removed in 1.2. I believe, but may be wrong.

I do hope so. It make it easier to see underground statues built up from bedrock. ^^
