Somewhat off topic, but if you wanted to you could make it more of a peninsula than an island.

By filling in some of the small water areas towards the right of this image, it would become part of a larger continent. Just a suggestion :D

Cats...? :0

Point well taken. Does this constitute an official decision on the matter, or just bringing up one of several possibilities?
Agreed, I would like to know what will be done as well so I can get my grubby mitts on some jungle tree saplings.

Edit: Just read on the wiki that a 2x2 square of jungle sapling produces a giant tree with vines. Sweet.

Personally at some point in the future I probably wouldn't mind a full map wipe eventually as It'll definately wipe clean any remaining duped items. But it isn't needed just yet. There's still plenty of public land outthere, which if it starts getting too far for new players to walk to, the central spawn can be moved or we can start giving new players a starter food kit, maybe some credits or some generous souls can start a soup kitchen for new adventurers (the last one is something I'ld like to implement if I ever get round to building the guildhall near spawn).
Intelli's indicated that saplings could be spawned in, which is certainly easier and realistic as they are a renewable source, unlike glowstone. Fair distribution to all players might be a problem as a monoply could easily occur otherwise. Something to bear in mind. Althourgh all in all a simply and workable solution.
For a map wipe I think once the map onwership starts reaching a certain point, I don't know 50% or more (maybe even higher at 75%?), then we could start entering a different phase. Competition for rarer resources on the otherworld would increase, clay and diamond usage might eventually reach a point when they become scarce. Possible trade wars might trade?
But at this point a full map wipe maybe be more popular, its hard to say.
I definately think the current map will be with us up til atleast the 1st anniversy of survival 3.0 in May.
The trouble with map wipes, full map wipes is once your work is gone, its' gone. Whilst a new map offers fresh opportunities to build it new and to build it better it's also a major put off to build something only to have all your work erased. Part of the appeal of this server is the realm system which as loong as you play guarantees a certain amount of stability and permanence to the effort put in.

As for the biomes that'll happen anyway on the old map just as with previous updates, even old privately owned realms with have their biomes changed (It now snows in Turves ^^).

To summarise I don't mind the idea of a full map wipe and would support one, just not at the moment, maybe later in the future, but probablly much later.

Instead of going through the troubles of a map wipe, why not expand the map to get the new terrain features? this might also solve the problem of resources becoming exhausted.

But before we decide on either a map wipe or expansion we should wait for a few months at least I think. then we'll be able to see what other new content is implemented by Mojang.

Diamonds quite simply for all practical purposes will never run out.

Heres some numbers to think about:
The minecraft wiki says that there are roughly 3.097 diamond ores per chunk. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Diamond_Ore
The current map is limited to 10,000 x 10,000.
Divide one side by 16 = 625 chunks on each the x and z axis.
625x625 = 390,625 chunks for the entire map.
390,625 x 3.097 = 1,209,765.62 Diamond ores for the entire map.

This is where the numbers get fun....say you have 33 people on the map, mining continuously. They each find one diamond ore every hour. 33 diamond ores are harvested every hour, or 792 every day, for the entire server.
1,209,765.62 divided by 33 = 36659.5642
36659.5642 hours in days = 1,527.48184 days
1 527.48184 days in months = 50.1852802 months

That's 4.18210669 years for the map to be used up...If 33 people find one an hour, 24 hours a day until finished.

We have awhile yet before this becomes an issue lol.

I reckon Intelli was smart enough to sacrifice a single solitary realm in the ocean rather than a clump or group of realms that had actually put effort. Did he not go through tons of seeds to find the best most accommodating one for the server?

Why "punish" most for the sake of a few?
The only large realms out in ocean are Findale and a handfull of guys in the corners of the map. I know I'm not hurting for a wipe. I believe the guys in the corners went there for privacy; what says private better than a mile-wide moat?

A full wipe turns us into a basic server, I don't see one in order tell 50% of realms are private and the map is not expanded. It erases every single build on the server, it erases months of accomplishments. Everybody becomes a noob, and everybody becomes able to have a fighting chance to, well, begin making the server good again.
