Okayyy, I can see this isn't gaining a lot of support. So, don't jump on my back about this, but I'm not sure about SOPA or ACTA. The video sure makes it look bad, but who has ever completely trusted a youtube video? I would need to read the bill word for word myself to come to a conclusion on its goodness. It seems to be quite ambiguous in the range of things it can do. Don't get me wrong. Computers and the internet have revolutionized the world. Wikipedia is a pretty reliable and accessible source of information. And there are countless sites that provide free information. Facebook, twitter, youtube, photobucket, etc. obviously need to stay.

What I don't like is the pirating of media going on. We don't need Eminem's latest album, that movie Johnny Depp stars in, or that awesome game of blocks. We want these things. They are luxuries. And to keep them luxurious, the makers need to be making profit. If no one pays, the quality and/or quantity decrease. And if people can have luxuries for free, why should they work for money? Free stuff=no economy.

I'll stop pirating stuff when the companies finally make it harder to pirate stuff. I mean, registration keys? Really? Try a little harder. We could generate registration keys in the 90's.

Also, did you know that a number of movie and music conglomerates paid companies (like MediaDefender) to illegally attempt to break into multiple file sharing sites (including The Pirate Bay), DDoS them, and post false torrents that contained tracking cookies and viruses in them?

Talk about hypocrites.

If the companies put more effort into anti-piracy, they'd be wasting their time. People will always find a way to hack the system.

Well, I guess we can say we've been here before. The 18th amendment failed, and so will this.

Except, contrary to popular belief, most of the people who post torrents aren't into doing cracking or working out registration code algorithms. The majority of torrented software simply comes with an original, legit key that gets used over and over again.

CD Keys are the absolute worst, least secure means of verifying software. We should have dumped them back in 1999.

People get up-in-arms over more advanced protections. I personally hate them because they are often extremely invasive and are just plain annoying. The fact is, no matter what kind of protection companies create to protect software, someone will devise a way to break it. Piracy can really only be stopped by means that greatly restrict personal freedoms and rights.

Having said that.. I would like to think that the vast majority of piracy is done by children and teenagers who don't have money, and would not be able to purchase the products anyway. Dunno if it's true or not though... I know that is why I have torrented some stuff in the past though. Now, I work... why pirate something when you can pay for it?

As for this trade agreement.... well, I'll be pissed off if it gets established and my country (the US) joins without even releasing the text to the public. As of now it's "classified in the interest of national security"...

The only safe place from this is Asia, but they are already highly censored.
This does not make much sense to me. If it is everywhere but Asia, that would mean it affects Canada. Here is what I don't understand: Under the Canadian Charter of Rights amd Feedoms, all people in Canada, whether Canadian or not, have the right to free speech and privacy. The laws stated in the Charter cannot be changed. Well, if you are being watched, you have no privacy and if they censor the Interwebs, we have no free speech. What the retards in your government are doing would be taking away rights from Canadians that are NOT allowed to be taken from us.

What my point is is that the US government should not be able to do this to Canada because of our Charter rights.

And, if this does go through, I have a stash of nukes I could release on all of the major cities in USA. >:)

US citizens have the right to bear arms, but that didn't stop a bunch of states from passing laws making ownership of certain guns illegal.
