I don't know what I think about this proposal. This is survival, and if "iConomy Style" means what I think it means, then no. However, I do like the easier transactions, because there's no good stores anymore. Foxtops is gone, NTC is taken down, and all other shops are run by amateurs and are usually not one when someone needs to buy things. I don't really like the signs idea though. The player who owns the signs wouldn't be able to get the credits if they're not on. I'm guessing an average MineRealm player plays 3-8 hours a day, and that's only 1/8-1/3 of the day. That wouldn't work if most of the major sellers are on the other side of the world, and I'm pretty sure that most are (around US/Canadian times).
Will edit when I can get my thoughts together. ;)

Here's why this is a bad idea. The rich will get richer and anyone else trying to sell anything will have even less of a chance than they do at the moment.

From what I understand you'd place your chest with the items you want to sell in your realm, correct? If so, here's what will happen.

1. All the rich players/groups with realms close to spawn will set up a bunch of chests that can be bought from 24/7. Due to the fact that they are at spawn they will get the most traffic and therefor the most customers. Shops farther than 500 blocks from spawn will get hardly any customers and even anything farther than 300 blocks will struggle.

2. The richer players/groups can often afford to set lower prices than the rest. Combining this with the fact that they're close to spawn means that everyone will shop at those 2 or 3 shops near spawn exclusively.

3. The fact that you no longer have to take part in the selling as a seller means you can sell everything at the same time without having to put any effort in. For example, most 'rich' players don't bother selling cheap, easilly obtainable items because it's not worth the time and effort. With the chests you would be able to sell everything while doing what you would normally do to earn credits. This takes the 'beginner items' market away from the 'beginners' and all small transactions would now also go towards the already rich players.

4. The fact that the chests will be available 24/7 means that anyone trying to sell anything during low traffic hours is also boned. Supply and demand has less influence on the price as there will almost always be supply. At the moment it's possible to sell things for a slighty higher than usual price when certain people aren't online.

Basically, this system is going to help the rich much more than anyone else. It's not going to make selling things easier for everyone. It's going to make selling things easier for people with realms close to spawn.

So go ahead and implement it. Personally, it would be a great boost to my income. I can finally sell all the junk I normally don't have time for to sell. :D

Perhaps I can help you gather your thoughts. Although I'm not entirely sure what you may think "iConomy Style" means, rest assured that it doesn't mean any items can be generated from thin air or that items can be sold to the server. All transactions are still strictly player to player in what I'm proposing here. As for the signs concern, being able to receive credits while offline would be a crucial part of this plugin. In fact, it's one of the main reasons I proposed it in the first place. Chances are, if you liked those old stores, then you'll love a plugin like this. It would make it much easier for stores like those to be created and maintained, and for consumers to find and purchase what they're looking for.

I see where you're coming from with this concern, but I feel that you're underestimating how quickly items may begin to fly off the shelves with this sort of plugin on a server as massive as Minerealm. I'd imagine that with such low prices in such a perfect location, stores would begin having trouble keeping items in stock. That, coupled with the fact that the number of spawn points will increase as time goes on, makes it seem unlikely to me that a few superstores could completely dominate the market in every aspect.

You know it could just be made Dothan the chests only open while a store owner is online, not at the shop, but online.

Although it kind of defeats te purpose it would make it fairer.

Even though the idea is really chocolate. But it is such a good one that it would make shops useful again and not dead structures not used. Also it would make the economy super competive which makes everyone a winner :)

Also maybe only works if the owner is the realm with the chests.

I generally endorse this idea allthough it is true, that some big factions would dominate the market and the prices for Spawn realms would go even higher. So perhaps something like a pawn shop? Everyone can give their blocks etc. to that pawn shop for a fee and if it isn't bought within a week or so they get their blocks back, otherwise they get the money.

Could be implemented via chat commands like:
/pawn list
Show list of items you are trying to sell
/pawn diamond
Shows the currently cheapest, most expensive and average price for diamonds per diamond as well as the cheapest and most expensive offer right now
/pawn diamond list [1,2,3,4]
Shows the list 1,2,3 etc. of offers for diamonds
/pawn diamond buy 1307
Buy the diamond offer number 1307

Would be quite a bit of coding though .. but I doubt much more than a reliable Shop system and if the fee is high enough it would give everyone a chance while keeping face to face transaction a good option.
To me either option(pawn shop or shop system) would be great.

A designated shopping mall would prob work best rather then allowing players to place the chest themselves in their own realms but having them in your own realms would be good too cause players that travel would be able to buy from someone when they are way out in the boonies rather then heading to trade/spawn to get what they want.
