but it won't perform as well for any where near as long :p

And back on topic!

So you don't have to go through the whole ~/library/app.... thing every time you need a screenshot, right click on the screenshots folder, and select Make Alias, then drag that into you documents folder for easy access :)

Tell that to my Windows 95 computer that still works just fine that I have sitting in my basement. Along with a couple others and a Windows 98 computer.

I'm no hardware master, but I'm smart enough to know that macs include a huge apple tax for mediocre hardware. It performs smoothly because apple designs the software/OS for specific hardware only. So you have absolutely no choice in that area, plus upgrading is out of the question. It was a huge pain to just change out the RAM on my mini. Apple computers are nice for looking nice on the outside and UI-wise. They're more pleasant to do editing on due to the interface, but it ends there. For the price, choices, and vest performance, Apple is the wrong way to go. They're really just nice for editing and web browsing/mobility. That's why you see so many in businesses and college campuses.. They're only used for generic work.

Or ya know, you could just build your computer. It doesn't get any easier than that, especially when talking in terms of upgrading.

Do you have $1000+ to give me to buy an iMac? And for the record, they're just as hard to upgrade as a mini. Apple doesn't want you to upgrade without going through them and paying a huge premium just for Apple hardware. Have you not noticed how much it costs just to upgrade RAM by one or two gigs? Yeah, for a 2 minute job, it doesn't deserve $200 or more.

Exactly, I built my computer for ~$800 by myself and it wipes the floor with Macs double and even more than double that price.

its three small screws in the bottom of the iMac
and £40 for 8 gigs of ram
RAM/Memory isn't everything. You don't get nearly any control over the performance of your mac when it comes to gaming, for instance. You can't replace any other hardware besides hard drives and of course, RAM, just because of the way their machines are built for one thing.. 99% of the time, there won't be room which is the big problem. Then add in that only some graphics cards, for example, are 100% compatible with Mac OS X, and an update could break that.

I'll leave it at this: if you want a pretty, flashy computer room, get Macs. If you want to do graphic design, consider getting a Mac. If you want to go on Facebook and all that other general internet stuff, well don't get a Mac because the iPad does the same thing (though still overpriced for a giant iPod touch). For anything else, save yourself some money and build your own PC. Hell, you can pay to have a custom system built for you and it'll be cheaper and faster, or the same price and MUCH faster.
