I also think that colonies would have different commands. There could be something like realm warp except it would have to be /colony 1 warp, /colony 2 warp, etc. and you could have the power to move your colonies by typing /colony 1 move. It would remove the colony from the area that it is in and you move to a different place and type /colony establish or something like that. f you go to /realm status it would say something like "Ebonywood (220x220) Colonies Established (2) Colonies Remaining (0)". Colonies remaining would be the colonies that you are able to establish. Once it reaches 300x300 it would say "Ebonywood (300x300) Colonies Established (2) Colonies Remaining (1)" and if you moved a colony it would say "Ebonywood (220x220) Colonies Established (1) Colonies Remaining (1)"

Okay i like the whole idea BUT it would take up to much room. if maybe you only get 1 colony and it is like 70x70 with zero expansion. Relocation is not a good idea. you cud just relocate next to a resource until it is gone then move again. One more point is that you can only make it private not no visitors that would make people walking through the wilderness have to take detours to go around extra places. A colony also has no leader and you can only warp to it. it cant be placed near a realm that isnt your own to prevent stealing. Thanks and please take this into regard.

Now i am a realm leader but i would like my own area for me. if my realm gets huge but is massively cluttered i want a place to make cool stuff that doesn't belong to anyone but me. I think realms who are dedicated enough to get to a large sign like 250x250 they should get a reward. It will implore people to try and expand and make minerealm a more interesting place.

I think that colonies would be great to have in the Minerealm Survival Server. It would allow relams to establish a colony near a large amount of natural rescources and collect the rescources. This would give the realm and colony lots of iron, diamonds, lapis, etc. and allow noobs to gain more resources too. This would be done by trading of course. Then you could just disband the colony and establish it elsewhere to get even MORE resources! Realms could have more building space because of colonies and would be able to up the block count of the realm without crowding it, and the colonies by using mercantilism (when the realm gains blocks from the colony, but the colony would still have to have enough blocks to expand). It would allow more arenas by devoting a whole realm to battlegrounds and having small living areas around the realm for realm staff and visitors to stay at. The best thing about colonies would probably be the oppurtunities that you gain. You could start with a small peice of land and turn it into a large tourist attraction and get a large profit. Overall, this idea is great and I bet many others with large and huge realms would agree. Just think of how much more space Terranobyl and The Wolves Den would get... O.o

The fact that the natural resource acquisition is one of your contentions does make it sound very interesting. Having the colonies as mining colonies is a fun aspect that I see potential in.

I do picture the use of colonies being more of a parasite to mother- Minecraft's resources, but again, it's not something that seems legitimately bad-natured. I would prefer it if the colonies themselves did expand and it didn't give block count benefits to the home realm. This is mainly because I would like to see incentive to establish stable colonies, rather than just using it as a marker to block off 50x50 land from the rest of the community.

I enjoy thinking of colonies as outlets for arenas and other amentities, but naturally this concept will take more development.

I agree that massive realms benefit from this. The only problem I see is that eventually colonies litter the map and more than double the amount of realms. Some will probably grow big enough to over-take actual realms, which in itself is funny, but could pose a serious logistical problem as far as the map is concerned. If I were a big enough realm, I could just slap down 4 50x50 realms in a line and block off 200m of land. Imagine 10 realms doing this...

Good work developing a marketing strategy for it though :P

I like the idea, but I still think the only way that you will see this is in an unofficial sense. It's too easily exploitable as a separate entity. But if you make splinter realms on your own that are colonies in name, you have to sacrifice members and work time from the original realm.

Maybe if colonies had a max size...Would that be better? I don't like the blocking off 200m of land. And if it is not too much work, maybe there could be a certain distance you could place the colonies. Possibly at least 150 blocks away from the realm and each other?

And thanks for reading!

Because panthers wrote such a wonderful post about creating ideas, I feel that I should quote it here.
panthers17nfl wrote:8. Any idea that requires Intelli or the admins to put work into it will ultimately fail. I think I've mentioned this 5 times. In most cases, anything that requires the work of someone else is destined for failure, unless you make the case VERY strong. I don't want to discourage you from posting ideas by saying this, but if you do, don't give a tone such that you are pretty much forcing the admins to do all the work for it.
I try and be encouraging of ideas such as this, but in the end, it's not going to happen as a plugin. If it is something that you truly feel strongly about, you'll have to find some way to work it outside of a plugin. Experiment. Make a colony and see how it affects the game (i.e. original realm performance, diplomacy among other realms, etc.). Or get together a group of people and make up a set of rules governing colonies (ala Realm Wars). It seems that some kind of UN-like governing body would need to be established. Also, I imagine if you go this route, you will need to work with Realm Wars anyway (as colonial expansion is likely to spark its fair share of aggressions).

Just saying. Unless you learn to program the plugin yourself (and even if you do), it's highly unlikely to be adopted. Besides, anyone can develop a plugin. Creating something that is player driven/governed is much more exciting and helps boost the image of our community. :D

Make a colony and see how it affects the game
Look here. I already made a post about how it would affect the game. READ.
