It would allow relams to establish a colony near a large amount of natural rescources and collect the rescources. This would give the realm and colony lots of iron, diamonds, lapis, etc. and allow noobs to gain more resources too. This would be done by trading of course. Then you could just disband the colony and establish it elsewhere to get even MORE resources! Realms could have more building space because of colonies and would be able to up the block count of the realm without crowding it, and the colonies by using mercantilism (when the realm gains blocks from the colony, but the colony would still have to have enough blocks to expand). It would allow more arenas by devoting a whole realm to battlegrounds and having small living areas around the realm for realm staff and visitors to stay at. The best thing about colonies would probably be the oppurtunities that you gain. You could start with a small peice of land and turn it into a large tourist attraction and get a large profit. Overall, this idea is great and I bet many others with large and huge realms would agree. Just think of how much more space Terranobyl and The Wolves Den would get... O.o
The fact that the natural resource acquisition is one of your contentions does make it sound very interesting. Having the colonies as mining colonies is a fun aspect that I see potential in.
I do picture the use of colonies being more of a parasite to mother- Minecraft's resources, but again, it's not something that seems legitimately bad-natured. I would prefer it if the colonies themselves did expand and it didn't give block count benefits to the home realm. This is mainly because I would like to see incentive to establish stable colonies, rather than just using it as a marker to block off 50x50 land from the rest of the community.
I enjoy thinking of colonies as outlets for arenas and other amentities, but naturally this concept will take more development.
I agree that massive realms benefit from this. The only problem I see is that eventually colonies litter the map and more than double the amount of realms. Some will probably grow big enough to over-take actual realms, which in itself is funny, but could pose a serious logistical problem as far as the map is concerned. If I were a big enough realm, I could just slap down 4 50x50 realms in a line and block off 200m of land. Imagine 10 realms doing this...
Good work developing a marketing strategy for it though
