Since I got way off topic in another thread, here's one specifically for this topic.

This new server costs $374/month. This will be adding approximately $100 extra to our monthly operating costs, as we still need to maintain our other physical servers.

we need to get serious about thinking of ways to increase the donor base[/b]

i know a lot of players are kids/college students so not a lot of ready cash/disposable cash but
a minimum of over 600 different accounts logged in within the 48 hours of the snowball fight
if even half of those players, round it down to 300, donated $5 each that would be $1500 that could be enough (depending on how much of a cut paypal takes) to fully fund the server for 4 months (based on the $374 Intelli mentioned it will cost now with the new server)
so..
anyone know how much paypal takes?
and..
anyone have any suggestions on how to get more players to donate even small (untaggable) amounts so that we can spread the cost?

when the regular map is up how do people feel about selling/raffling/auctioning in games items (not spawned, player made and donated) for real money?

any other ideas?

I personally don't like the idea of donors getting special in game privileges. (ya I know I said something about smoking feet, which I did love, but really that shouldn't be for donors that was for the anniversary) but may be there is something we can do to make it an incentive?

as the server grows..love seeing jdankk's banner on mcserverlist by the way...player limit might become an issue..maybe donors can have "reserved spots" or "first choice" or something like that?

just ideas..feel free to shoot them down but hopefully replace them with better ones :)

What about microtransactions? Pay money for items?
Then we would be a moca cappuccino server, not the barely vanilla we voted on

not arguing, just asking..
even if they were player created and donated items? (as opposed to spawned by the server)

i see lots players gave away cool items at trade for Christmas
and someone's always auctioning something for rc's
it would be different b/c the server would get the $ instead of the player getting the rc's and it would have to be voluntary
maybe if you couldn't donate yourself but your contributions earned $15/month for the server you could still get the donor tag?
dunno..just spit-balling

A whole bunch of people already donated from the "5 grand scare." I see a lot of donor tags now and I honestly feel left out without one. I think a lot of people feel the same way. If a the majority of players have donor tags, people without one look like noobs, grievers, or just untrustworthy. People may be somewhat forced to get a tag just to fit in.

So basically what I'm saying is that the "5 grand scare" has already brought in plenty of donations and the donations may keep coming and may even increase speed. Please tell me if that sounds dumb or wrong.

I personally like the idea of selling in-game items (created by players and donated to the cause) in exchange for a money donation in place of the usual transfer of in-game credits. I know I'd be willing to whip up some iron and diamond equipment with some enchantments to auction off if such a program gets underway.

Not dumb at all :)
Not sure about wrong or not?
From what I've seen and experienced, it typically takes Intelli weeks to add new donor tags, so unless he was especially speedy, those new tags are not reflective of new donations since the "scare".
Also, maybe more people PM their donations to him to get tags than post on the "Donate" thread? Because judging by that thread, there haven't been many since the "scare".
