Intelli recently created a thread asking for suggestions regarding the "Sand Beast" he is creating. I was completely unaware that he had these kind of programming superpowers, and so I am going to develop an ideas thread focused entirely around this.
The Sand Beast
It looks muoy awesomio, but I'm not sure exactly how he wants it to operate. BUT he did ask for suggestions, so here they are:
Physical Description / Properties: I would think it'd be interesting if there were different sized / materialized versions of this beast. There are some components of a "Beast" that I think would be fun to have:
The Body: Just as is pictured in Intelli's idea thread. It looks like 3 5x5 layers topped with a 3x3.
The Core: Every elemental beast has a core piece of redstone, gold, or maybe diamond if we want to (maybe for rare / ancients?). If you manage to hurt the beast enough to expose the core, you can attack this to do extra damage.
Methods of Attack:
Sand Beast The beast (at least the sand version) can drop sand a few meters in front of it in attempts to crush its enemies (maybe dump large quantities to make it hard to escape?). If intelli wants to, maybe he can program in so that they shoot ghast-like projectiles (maybe way less powerful), or shoot fire or something. The sand beast in particular will also, if players come very close to it, will dump larger amounts of sand on them, or sit on them.
Slaying the Beasts: It looks like hitting them like normal mobs does the damage. I was thinking every element would have a strength / weakness, or durability in general. For example, the sand beast would have moderate durability, excel in quick attacks, but, as intelli stated, is vulnerable to shovel attacks. The cobble beast would have high durability, have sluggish, powerful strikes, but be vulnerable to pickaxes. The leaf beast would have low durability, very quick and invasive attacks, but be vulnerable to pretty much everything.
I was thinking perhaps after the beast is hurt enough, it will have a few of its blocks break, eventually exposing the core.
Mobility: I'm guessing these things are slow and lumbering. Whether they are meant to be easy kills or not, I think they shouldn't be made easy because you can kite them with bows. Ranged attacks may be needed.
Hopefully the beast doesn't do that hop-back thing when it's hit. It would look too ridiculous on a larger npc imo.
Rarity: Maybe rarity of these things should correspond to their material (sand is relatively rare, cobble a little less rare).
Stats:Sand Beast
Health: 80 Hearts
Total Number of Blocks: 24? (5x5x3 blocks + 3x3x1)
"Breakapart Stages": 3 (After 10 hearts lost, lose 5 blocks, after 20 total lost, lose 9 blocks, after 30 total lost, lose 14)
Damage Taken: .5 Hearts / hit with anything, or 1 heart with shovel, or 1.5 hearts with diamond shovel.
Construct: Redstone Core
Attacks: Sand drop (up to 6 blocks away), Sand dump (up to 2 blocks away), Ghast-like, weaker missile (up to 25 blocks away, fires somewhat rapidly)
Drops: As is pictured, the beast will drop the correct amount of blocks of the material it is constructed with. The core perhaps should drop it's piece only if it was hit for the kill. If there were some unique gems or artifacts they could drop that'd be sick, but alas, we don't have those items yet
.
Special Areas: It would obviously take construction (I could help), but we could have it so that certain ancient or ultra rare ones have special resting grounds, a big open underground cavern maybe. It'd just be weird to see them hoping around on the beach
.
Watery Depths
It would probably take terraforming, but I think it'd also be interesting if there were in some places large expanses of water that could stretch very deep down (so, more similar to an ocean). Perhaps at the bottom or lodged in some underwater caverns would be some ruins of something, or treasure. This would also introduce the Kraken mob.
(Will work on later)
