I don't see how this would help keep people from exiting the nether at your overworld portal. If I understand the device correctly, stepping onto the pressure plate activates the pistons and pushes the unsuspecting player back into the portal. But since there's a delay between stepping into the portal and being teleported to the nether, the player would have time to walk back out of the portal, perhaps jumping over the pressure plates (since the empty space in the portal is 3 blocks high).

In my tests the delay was surprisingly short, trying to run against the piston only makes it worse, as you run out and are pushed back in repeatedly, jumping didn't help either, as your legs will still be in front of the pistons when they extend, or you will just land on the pressure plates and get pushed again.
