Hello, lately there have been many arguments as to wether or not griefing is allowed in the Nether. In short, it is NOT allowed. However, small tunnels going around buildings and such are allowed. There may be disagreement, but currently this rule has been a very obvious grey area. So for now, until properly clarified by Intelli, griefing in the Nether is not allowed.

Is stealing from chests allowed?

If so, is it also OK to break a block on top of a chest in order to steal from the chest, or is this considered griefing since it involves the breaking of a block that someone placed for a particular purpose?

No offense, but what is stopping people from griefing in the Nether?

I mean, that shop in front of the Spawn portal didn't last one night. People are going to grief the Nether like mad, regardless of what the staff says...

Prodigy, if a player is dumb enough to keep chests of gear in what can only be described as HELL, they deserve to be robbed.

Also, Hoss previously said Nether Theft was allowed.

The difference is whether people can grief and have their damage left as is until someone decides to manually repair it, or whether griefers can expect to have their damage rolled back (and possibly be banned). So you're right, there's nothing to physically prevent griefing in the nether... but there will be consequences for doing so.

Prodigy, since breaking those one or two blocks is related to stealing, then it is allowed.

Silsu, unfortunately that is a server wide problem, not just Nether. But we do our best to enforce the rules. It is hard for us to make punishments on grey areas like this, because we are unsure of what the official rule is. I am deeming this to be the official rule until further notified.

Camping / killing an innocent victim, as soon as they enter the Nether, causes grief to that player and isn't respectful of that player. Unless of course, they're obviously looking for a fight (ex: have a sword).

but yeah... this is why i got mad at the person greifing when intelli clearly stated it :/

How do I know if a given piece of netherrack is natural or someone's wall? On the night this was posted, one faction or other was complaining about this one block being broken, that one block being broken, ban any name that came up that wasn't from their own faction. There's been so much crying to staff over the Nether lately that I've been afraid to enter it, lest I be banned for sneezing.
