You aren't leaving the island if you build a bridge to mainland. Alternatively you can think of it this way: If you "attach" the island to a larger island, it still remains an island.

I would think of it as by connecting them they become your island. The large island is just an addition to your island. Therefore, you haven't left your island. Haha but it's really how you think of it and it would be about too easy to do all challenges with a large mainland.

ok, here's mine so far. I've been pretty lucky, only fell once, had one fire (oops lava), and had 1 run-in with a creeper.

Keep in mind I didn't rename the file, so it will copy over your existing folder if you have one.
The mob farm works fine, but make sure you're on at least easy mode or they wont spawn

You must of been lucky, because 2 of your bonemeal from the one bone would have been used on the mushrooms so you must of got one tall grass to grow and got a seed off of it.

*Edit: also how did you get the grass because don't you start with only dirt on top.

I made a mob farm area, so I have more bones than I know what to do with. Grass spawned on top. Just so long as you didn't get rid of the top layer, you should have been fine. See http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/600 ... -skyblock/ for pictures of what it looked like at the start.
I used version 1.1 and minecraft version 1.8.1.
