The Ender Pearl is a new item in the 1.8 update and is sometimes dropped by Endermen upon death. Currently this item has no use and all future uses of the Ender Pearl are currently unknown. These pearls can be commonly found in bodies of water "naturally" as Endermen will occasionally walk into water and die there from water damage.

Common Misconceptions:

There have been many rumors and misconceptions regarding the use of the Ender Pearl and it is worth noting in particular that Ender Pearls DO NOT:
1. Keep mobs from becoming aggressive.
2. Allow the player to punch mobs from a distance (a feature exclusive to Creative Mode).
3. Halve the distance in which Endermen will turn aggressive towards the wielder.

if someone can bring one of these endermen to my superfarm, and put them on the lowest floor (bedrock down there), without killing them, i will give them all my monies (they probably like stealing minecarts like other mobs do, use this knowledge to help in transporting them)

Endermen view point is about 2 inches of the top of there head. That's why they don't chase you in SMP
