Map Wipe
Make 11.11.11 the final version, barring major terrain update after that date. It will give us the best of both worlds - everyone gets to keep their stuff, and we get to see the new stuff as well. In fact, this may even be a driving force for older players to eventually abandon their spawn empires to the noobs and head out into the wilderness for fresh resources and untouched land.

Kroxic is onto something there. A possible (easily implemented) mechanic would be to set your realms public if you want them wiped. (or keep them private if you don't) Who cares if it gets griefed when its about to be wiped anyhow?
Subway
I don't see the issue here. It took me a few hours to make a 500 block long section of subway tunnel (with floor/wall/ceiling) and I only had one guy helping me. Since the my future spawn (fingers crossed) has gotten 3 more players to agree to help me dig subway. When multiple spawns goes live I expect my team of 5 can (and will) rapidly double and redouble in number. I expect to be able to build 2000 blocks of tunnel in an afternoon. Heck, you don't hear the old players crying about losing the road that runs from one end of the north to the other.
The only real thing you have on the internet is your reputation.
Decisions should be based on facts, not friendships.
