Hey everyone,

As many of you know, the following is going to happen:
1.8 will be released, which will have new map terrain.
1.9 will be released several weeks later, once again with new map terrain (confirmed).

MineCraft final will be released 11/11/11, possibly with new map terrain. Unconfirmed.

The thing is, for MineRealm, we want to be on a map which we consider "permanent" - no more wipes!
However, the ultimate question is, when should this happen?

Can't you just do what you're going to do for 1.8? Wipe the map and import the private realms? I say wipe the public lands as much as you want. So long as we don't have to rebuild all the time.

At one point I feel that the entire map and everything associated with it needs to be wiped.

With large railways planned to be built in wilderness area, etc, this isn't the most feasible idea.

Then ditch the rail ways... with multiple spawn points, the subway is kinda obsolete anyways!

It's going to take some time for the new spawn cities to come together anyways. Maybe putting a hold on that project might not be such a bad thing? The subway that is.

I don't know, I'd hate to see what I've accomplished over the past few months be wiped, but I also want all the new features that Minecraft will release over time. I would like to see it continue as you're doing for the 1.8 update. Sure, with the public realm wipes there would be a loss in any railways or things like that. But it would be a whole lot better than having all the private realms wiped too.

The subways will be perfectly acceptable, and extremely useful for city-to-city transport. It's not like we can pick which spawn city we start at. They will essentially be our interstate system, and if you can tell me how those are obsolete then please do.

This is actually not true. The subway isn't even complete by my understandings, and when 1.8 hits with multiple spawn points, how will people travel to other spawns?
Due to the new port system of /spawn you would end up at the closest spawn near your current location.

Many people would not want to walk to the spawn they wish to port to, therefore the Railway system will be booming.
If anything 1.8 will make the railway more popular then ever, and also add a new era to Minerealm.

Its quite simple, it'll be easy enough to jump from spawn to spawn, by walking just over half way to the next one and using the /spawn command.

But the rails do keep them busy, and if they want to do busy-work, then by all means, have at it!
