I didnt start playing minecraft until Frogglenn showed me it and said we should remake his old city again ( Frogtown )
he was telling me at one time, you could make it so people could access chests in a private realm they didnt own, but could break or place blocks i think.. something like that. but it sounded neat when he was talking about it.

Agreed, for example " Terra Nova Guild" It sounds great. It also reminds me of WoW, Lol.

My preference would be that 50x50 plots of land be labeled 'Plot', which can be by itself its own 'Realm' or part of a multiple plots 'Realm'. For a plot to be part of a Realm it must be named; as for multiple plots to be named under the same name, hence to be part of the same Realm, they must initially be physically connected.
As for the name/label for groups, I propose using... drum-roll... 'GROUP'.
Plots should be able to have it own description, allowing to label part of a Realm such as [Realm Name - Plot Description].
E.G. [City 17 - Shepherd's Hideout], [My Realm - Lame District], & [Huge Town - Tall Tower]

The server is known for it proprietary feature of the grid-based land system currently known as Realms.
After all this is MineRealm, not MineEmpire, MineCity, or MineGroup. (Hopefully not using any already claimed server names)
Also the currency is Realm Credits...

Land= 'Plot'
Group of Plots= 'Realm'
Group of People= 'Group'

A group can own multiples Realms, a Realm can own multiple Plots, a Plot can own multiple lava'ed newbs.

Realm is most commonly used to describe a large collection of LAND. Using it to describe a group of people makes the system less intuitive and descriptive of what it actually means.

The word "party" generally is used for temporary interactions.
"Cities" or "Guilds" are both much more fitting compared to party. I personally feel that "Guild" provides the best analogy to what actually happens. You have to apply to a guild, be accepted, and are granted a level or rank. This is what will be happening on the server. A city is something people move to on their own accord. You may choose to have little interaction with the other people. Thus, "Cities" is not a good fit.

I vote "Guild" due to the personal interaction that it implies.

TL;DR

"Guilds" should rule "Realms" composed of individual "Plots"

Without knowing the new functionality being added to parties, I can see no reason to change the name.

The word realm denotes a place under the control of one or more people. I would not replace /party with /realm; it would be counter-intuitive.

It might be interesting to use /plot when dealing with a single 50x50 piece of land, while using /realm to deal with all plots sharing the same name. This would allow you to rapidly change the motd, rename/sell an entire realm, give/remove multiple build rights, etc. Seperate motd's may even be interesting. You get the realm motd at the border, while getting plot-based motd's as you travel within the realm.
