I'm presently getting an "internal exception java.net.socketexception read timed out" error when I try to log-in to the survival server. I've increased my buffer size to 512, but still no dice.

The Survival server is down. As far as I know, Intelli has been e-mailed about it. Please remain patient until we are able to get it back up and running. In the meantime, why not play on Creative or test out 1.8?

1.8 release is in 2 days, Notch wouldn't set a time then move it forwards. It is probably just a normal crash, like the ones that have happened multiple times before...

Hopefully they are upgrading their over-worked servers, notch hasn't had a server upgrade since mid alpha I believe, (insert flaming about how stupid the exp orbs are, and even the unoriginal concept of exp)
