I'm not sure if this is a Minecraft in general thing or something specific to our server, but I've noticed that, when placing steps of any kind they occasionally look transparent. I logged and switched texture packs, but that had no effect. Instead of placing the step next to a step (with air under it) I tried having a solid block under it and that had no effect either.

Anyone else notice something like this or know what is wrong?

That happens from time to time. It has happened to me as well.
I believe it is a Minecraft bug. :S

Yeah, I just went back after mining for a bit and tried again. Seems to be working fine for now.
