GREAT IDEA!!! I think in a total war mode though you should be able to go William Sherman( Civil War General) style and be able to destroy everything in the enemies city.

Also it would encourage more underground building, you know, like trying to hide your valuables from the enemy underground and whatnot.

But either way this is an AMAZING idea and will hopefully happen.

Also it would be cool(for if they have a realm using primarily wood) to be able to raze the city. But the option is only available in like the extreme war mode.

Unless its razed that wouldnt be very organized...Itd just be letting everything burn

Itd also allow a cool "trench warfare" type thing where people could dig out trenches and use bows they could also make TNT cannons.

On the trench warfare thing: Who do you think will win? Archers in a hole, or archers at the top of the hole? It's like digging your own grave.

So admitting that, why would we want to do the same?

It would be one of those tiny blue-details that don't receive much notice, I'd expect. Most players would probably be focused on just the concept of war that setting up trench wars may take too much time.

I think that this is a great idea, and would love to see it implemented! However, I do see a couple of problems with the system, mostly with actually starting wars:

-Declaring war: I see plenty of frustration in anyone being able to declare war on anyone (yes, I know there are conditions, e.g. alliances). Say a peaceful realm is just building when a bunch of heavily armed guys come out of nowhere and break everything and slaughter everyone. That would piss me off. On the other hand, taking revenge on a realm would be difficult if one's enemies can simply say, "No thanks, no war for us". Maybe a system of approval by a volunteer board? And I think a warning system would be good (in-game message and e-mail, maybe).

-Sneak Attack: Basically, if no one is online in a realm when war breaks out, depending on the type on conflict, the enemy can just walk in and start stealing and wrecking. Maybe there could be a cease-fire when one of the realms has less than a certain number/percentage of people online?

Just raising some issues. These problems might have been mentioned already, but I didn't see them directly addressed.
