We have a server wipe every time Intelli dictates it. We have no reason to believe there will be one in the near future.

Intelli didn't seem like he was planning for a 1.8 wipe. But who knows?

We do have plans to make the maps on our servers permanent in the future, expanding, and moving the spawn if necessary, to meet needs. However, unfortunately, this can't be implemented until Minecraft is officially launched. (11/11/11).

If the map file format for 1.8 changes (unlikely) we will have to wipe. Otherwise it is optional.

Personally I'd like a wipe for 1.8. All of the chunks in the -5000 to 5000 range have already been generated, so we can't get any of the new content without expanding the map or wiping.
