From what i understand, there is a hard cap of 200 or so mobs per server. If there are 150 people on, that means that everyone gets a little bit more than one mob. Most likley your only mob spawned in a cave deep underground. With high population comes fewer mobs per-person.

That is very correct, which is why Lightbulbs statement of donating for more mobs is actually wrong. Get online on the morning then you will see plenty of mobs and they will fill your grinders quite nicely.
