Because front plates are a tremendously stupid thing and thankfully some states don't require them. I will never live in a state that requires them.

They block crucial airflow that would otherwise flow through your grille and then through your radiator/intercooler, and they look hideous and instantly ruin any vehicles' front fascia.

No they don't, they sit on the bumper.....

They are also very useful for ID purposes, such as impatient idiots who tailgate you because they believe they are more important on the road. These are the morons who cause accidents, road rage etc. Also for Red light/speed cameras.

If you can see the front of their car and they're driving recklessly, chances are in a few seconds you're probably going to see the back of their car. Besides, the states that don't require front plates have no problems catching reckless drivers.

But talking about being serious do 'Muricans really block their radiator vents with a licence plate?
That's gotta be up there with crazy stuff like not being able to grasp the metric system

Just one of the many things I love about Arizona. I guess there's just no prevalent problem here that would have it required. Even with photo radar we only need the back one.

I'm celebrating being an Aussie by watching a Serbian play an English game with a Japanese dude (Djokovic vs Nishikori at the Australian Open)

My ride this week ... planes, trains, trams and buses. Haven't managed to crash one yet.
