Marking a trap, and signifying a preferred occupancy are two entirely different things.
You are not in his guild, therefore don't use a guild member button.
I made something like that once, to mess with my friends. I marked it in such a manner so that random passerby wouldn't go in and kill themselves and try to ban me for going where they shouldn't. The only reason to use someone else's 'Guild Only' door is if you were hoping to get something you weren't supposed to have. I know that is a powerful force, but note that it is for something you're not supposed to have.
Sorry if this is seen as flaming or whatever, but seriously, if the door's not for you, don't touch it. Would you enter a room labeled 'employees only' and then be mad when you got in trouble? Report them to the cops for 'luring you in'?

That page you are reviewing is outdated and should indeed be updated. I did agree that even in the Official Rules it is a bit hidden/misguided and it would be moved when I rewrite the rules so they are more clear.

But again it is in the rules. With that said can you guys just resolve this peacefully and we can move on? Return the items and then we can drop this.

The trap was marked, as you saw. There was no lure, no promise of riches. (For the record, a button placed opposite of wall opens door) You didn't use the door for it's intended purposes. Don't blame others for your actions.
I disagree with the fact it had no lure. If I built a room that said "Secret Keep Out" no one who finds it is going to keep out. It's human nature to explore and do things they were told not to do. Curiosity will probably get the better of 90% of the players who stumble across that door. Was that door actually for guild members only and leading to something meant for the guild or was it simply a lure.

Now when you say you modeled the trap after a trap that killed you. That sounds like you intentionally made the trap to loot players valuables.

In this situation there is a simple solution, the items are returned and the trap is labeled better.

Of course. My hope in bringing the discrepancies to light has been satisfied. I will gladly return the items, my objections notwithstanding:
  • The best way to resolve disagreements is to approach the person directly. Not rush to a ban request first. People need to accept responsibility for their actions.
  • There are multiple locations containing rules, and the only obvious one is obsolete. There should be one obvious and complete location. Obsolete ones should be removed. (Looks like Rokkr is on this)
  • The rules on traps are vague at best
  • My trap met the requirements as they are currently written
I'll return the items at the earliest convenience.

Aslong as you don't break a rule who cares? If someone wants to be nosey when it states Guild members only let them die.

Ehh I'd have to disagree with several things you said in this. Though I agree there are multiple locations for the rules, there has always been one main thread since god knows how long. To be honest I rarely see people use the wiki. In the end you should always ask staff which staff would link you to the Official Rules thread.

As far as the rules being vague, how so? I think it's pretty straightforward, don't build near spawn, or off a main path unless marked. In your case it is a main path, as far as marked it is questionable whether Guild Only would be accepted as a warning or not that's probably the only thing I can see as vague.

There is no definition of "main path".
The "Traps" mentions are under a section about "portal camping".
