If you want, you could also try assigning the plot owner to the shooter of a projectile released from a dispenser since projectiles shot from these are born without a shooter. Use ProjectileLaunchEvent. Reason for doing this is to stop people from using dispensers and arrows to circumvent animal protection.

I understand the good intentions of this idea, however in the long run it creates new issues. The first thing that comes to mind is invincible chickens spammed at spawn. Overall, I believe this idea creates more problems than it would be worth implementing.

I know a server that has protection for the animals on the plots from players not friendly with the members of that plot. However they can still be lured then killed.

For invincible chicken spamming, that could probably be reduced through API. An egg will hatch chickens only if it lands in a plot the shooter has privileges in. It couldn't halt invincible chickens completely, but it could reduce it. It would inevitably be up to those with realm privileges to kill off the animals (which includes any dogs/cats someone decides to sit near spawn or in trade). Too bad this wasn't part of the suggestion.

Funny how I come up with these things after my edit timer runs out…

I realized ocelots which are made stationary by their owner in a private plot will basically be stuck there since you can't interact with passive mobs in private plots. Similar problems with horses. For tamable animals, it needs to check whether the player interacting with it is the owner, but this should fall under the main suggestion of the thread.

I'm rather curious how this could even be possibly implemented as it has never been done before/probably can't be done as far as I am aware.

I was completely joking, however I do like sneaking into people's farms. I also will enderpearl in and use peoples sheep farms lol.
