Does anyone even read my posts? I mean, the point of a forum is to have a conversation with people, not completely ignore what they actually say in favor of accusing them of being too "extreme" and make jokes about things that cause people to commit suicide.

The problem, dlgn, is you're trying to take a word that has both appropriate and offensive uses and trying to put it in with words that have only offensive use. If you feel like categorizing it that way for your own use and try to convince people to not use it offensively? That's fine. But trying to add it to the filter that will ban people even if they use it in an appropriate context is just ridiculous.

Synonyms, dear TeeJay. Decrease, shrunk, and the only valid derivative of the word that I've ever seen. I don't have any issue with the word "retardant".

So what you're saying is that you'd like to restrict my right to express myself in perfectly valid English because your sensibilities don't allow you to distinguish between an insult and a commonly used verb?

To 'retard' means to delay, which is indeed descriptive of what happens when you retard the ignition timing of an engine. You delay the spark. You don't decrease the spark, or shrink the spark. You retard it. I make no apologies for using the word in this context, nor should I have to.

Similarly, the retardation of growth does not indicate shrinkage. It indicates that it has held the growth back relative to what it would have been without intervention. A tumor for which the growth has been retarded may still have grown - just not to the extent that it would have without the treatment.

The 'swear list' as you put it is meant to censor obscene language from a family friendly server. The word 'retard', while in some context is obscene, is mostly used in a much more colloquial way to express the stupidity of some people.

I don't see why it has to be added since in a general societal sense it is not considered profanity. If you or any others have a problem with people using the language for dehumanising purposes, ban request them. We don't need to make the rest of the server community suffer the consequences of using valid derivatives of a word you find offensive.
