With the public realm wipe happening "soon," I would like to suggest that Intelli take down the server map after the wipe happens, and restore the map one week later. Many regions of the map will be wiped, and some of them will likely be replaced by attractive and/or valuable new biomes such as the mesa and the spiky ice plain. Implementing this idea would encourage players to explore the map in search of new and exciting things (not a common experience on a very well-established map), rather than just look up the new biomes' coordinates online.

Already going to do this. Minus the disabling the map part. It just won't update with new terrain for an unknown amount of time.
