The Country System
Some of us took it as a challenge, the rest of the populous mourned over their leaders' taxation. Countries were eventually abolished. There's probably an official thread with all the details.

Multiple Spawns
Was kinda awesome til the nubs complained of being so far from their friends. Roanoke, Abyssus, and Spawn City were the only ones to exist IIRC and all three are still the best places around (aside from Arcane which sits at the top ;))

I fondly remember the Terra Nova (or Nova Terra?) store. I believe it stood a few realms southwest of spawn. Didn't really do much except look pretty. I remember it having a ton of glowstone and for existing before villagers provided glowstone, it really did have a TON.

For a short time, there was a large circular death pit in front of the store which has taken the lives of many.

Glowstone has a lot of history… and it's just a freaking item. Before the public land and nether wipe for Minecraft version 1.0, the price of glowstone was generally 10k credits for a stack. When the wipe came, everyone jumped in the nether to get what they could find. You can imagine with the nether being so small and with so few portals, there were many confrontations. When you first go in, you expect that the portal you pop out of is newly generated… but it's not. Turn a corner and BAM, sword in your face. The easy glowstone was gone within a few days and even with more glowstone in the economy, the general price managed to reach 20k per stack.

there used to be no 'guilds', you were a member of one Realm and that was a rolled-up country, guild and community of its own. I miss that.

That's true, but it hasn't been the case for over 2.5 years. Most of MineRealm's major history is practically impossible to comprehend without an understanding of the guild politics at the time.

sorry for the double post,

The time the server crashed (was down for 2 or 3 days?) and while Intelli was getting our map resetup on the new provider he put us all in a big box ... whoever thought trees would be so valuable?

Also, OtherKitty had an epic rollercoaster. (unrelated to above)
