Welcome to MineRealm, Wolfebane :)

In order for the wipe to occur, the following must happen:

1) Bukkit must release a stable build for 1.7. There is no ETA on that release.
2) Intelli and Staff must then run a number of trial 1.7.2 seeds to find a good fit to our existing map (ie not placing a large amount of existing private realms in new ocean). These take around 10 minutes each to generate, if I recall Intelli's words correctly, so there is a bit of work in doing this.
3) Once these prep works are complete, Intelli will give a warning period (likely a couple of weeks) to allow people to mark realms for wiping and remove any items they want to save.

There may be other steps, but those three are sufficient to demonstrate that the wipe is a number of weeks away, and quite possibly won't happen until after Christmas.

As a newbie, you can still explore and collect resources - just be aware that if you start any large builds that you wish to keep, you will need to raise 10,000 credits BEFORE the wipe to allow you to purchase the realm and protect it from being wiped. Alternatively you could just collect resources for now and not start building anything, which would mean you get a fresh start in new 1.7.2 terrain once the wipe happens. VVolfie (staff) has offered to store items for new players on her spawn realms should you wish to do so, or I can help out in the same way with my spawn realm.

The border is fixed - that will be staying as far as I'm aware. The main map is 10,000 x 10,000 blocks with spawn in the centre. Approximately 80% of it is public land, but very little of it is "virgin" land anymore - hence everyone looking forward to the wipe so much :)

Items are not being wiped, according to the original post.

If I recall correctly, there is an ender chest right infront of the spawn (North, where the haunted house is)

This may seem like a random question but I was just wondering if the server will be, for any period of time, be updated to 1.7.2, before the wipe occurs? or will they just be done simultaneously?

My assumption is that they'd be done at the same time, since the update mostly consists of decoration/biome changes.
That's not an official answer, but it' my best guess.

In the original post, Intelli mentioned that there would be a wipe command:
Intelli wrote:Upon acceptance of this suggestion, the command "/realm wipe" will be added, allowing players to opt their realm in to be wiped.
Is there an ETA for when that command is supposed to work because it doesn't appear to be active yet or there's no feedback when it is used.

The ETA on all of this is "1.7" which at this point is dependent on multiple factors including a reasonably stable build of Spigot as well as Intelli's custom development to implement the overall public wipe concept. So, "soon" is your best estimate.

I would like to know whether private realm ownership on the northern border, where there is a one-block overlap between the Wilderness and the main map which allows players to purchase private land and secure chests inside the Wilderness, will be addressed before or during the wipe.

My concern is that players who own realms within the Wildy like this will be able to store their existing supplies and start out fully prepared in a new Wildy, whereas those who have not purchased these over-the-border realms (arguably an exploit) will have all their Wildy items wiped and will be starting from scratch - a huge disadvantage.

It would also be good to have clarification as to whether purchasing private realms inside the Wilderness border like this is regarded as an exploit. I have asked quite a few of the Staff whether it is permitted but none have known, and nobody has as yet been able to come back to me with a definitive answer.

Cheers ;)
