Nobody is going to read this.
I'm going to preface this by saying two things. One, THIS IS ALL MY OPINION, and two, I know I "come and go" often when it comes to Minerealm, and it's mainly for one reason - There is no other server quite like Minerealm, and I've already built everything I've wanted to build and I want to completely start over.
Now I'll attempt to add to that, so prepare your butts, this'll probably be a long post.
First off, I know exactly what you're all thinking "if you want to start over, just play single player or play on a private server with your friends." Yes, I could do that, but single player is awfully boring, and I've hosted a private server with my friends multiple times - it gets boring as well. You have nothing to share with other players around the world, and there's a feeling of "lost connection," if you will, with the world and the other players out there (TL:DR; It's 2013, we play Minecraft online now and we use SSP to test our builds for SMP)
Moving on.
Minerealm has been, and always will be my home server. I started playing on Minerealm two days after it opened on Oct. 28 2010. Minerealm stood out to me for a couple reasons:
1. Minerealm is a mostly vanilla (by Intelli's terms, "Chocolate") server. The only nonvanilla aspects are the realms and credits which I am OK with. These mechanics don't change the way we play Minecraft. You still mine, build, craft, and fight like you would in vanilla singleplayer mode. To me, overused plugins like Towny, iConomy, and the DREADED MCMMO, just add too much confusion to the game. Intelli's Realm plugin is INCREDIBLY simple (even if it is similar to Towny + iConomy). Intelli reduced the clutter and confusion of those two plugins with his Realm plugin.
2. There's nothing difficult to learn when I first join the server and the chat isn't full of stupid colored text and spam such as "XxCrafterKidxX just won a stack of Wooden Sticks in an auction". If I don't want to buy realms (not sure why you wouldn't) I don't have to. I can join the server and just playing Minecraft online with other players. The server is easy to get into.
3. The server basically runs itself now. Sure there's a few things that HelpBot can't get, but for the most part, HelpBot gets the job done. And most of the annoying players have been dealt with, and so we're now down to the most loyal players that Minerealm has ever seen. And new players can still join Minerealm, and if they want to spam chat, or grief, or be obnoxious, they'll immediately be dealt with by HelpBot, or the few staff members. In short, the players on Minerealm are responsible and far more trustworthy than any player you would find on any other server.
Alright, I don't want to get off-topic here, so I'll get to my main point. I'm a veteran player, and so are the friends I play with. Most of you know who I am and you all know that I tend to play for a few weeks, then leave for a long time. Well this is because I have absolutely nothing to do in Minerealm anymore, and other servers just don't have what I'm looking for in terms of server plugins and rules and all that.
Honestly when I login to Minerealm today I just run through the buildings I have built in my realms and do nothing else. - literally, I just run around the buildings I have and do nothing else but maybe talk to people. I have no motivation to explore or build anything because there's nothing left to explore or build. This is my main point. I want to be able to explore and build more stuff, but how can I? The map is just so old and small that there's nothing new to see. And why can't the map be expanded now that Minecraft has been optimized over the past years?
Sure you could wipe public realms but then it becomes a race to see who can find the rarest new biome from 1.7. And once they find it they'll buy it and never use it, or they'll sell it for the price of a spawn realm. I would love to start over new, I don't even care if I lose my realms or my credits. I want a fresh new start and I think some new players who join the server for the first time would like to see a new start too. One thing I don't like to see when I join a new server is that I can't find clean land very easily (and if I can't build on anything close to spawn that doesn't help either).
SUPER TL;DR: I want to start over new - it'll give me a reason to play Minecraft again. I don't care if I lose my credits or my builds. BUT, if I had to choose an option I would say option 1 is fine. And if we're going to be starting over at 0 credits, I would just sell my current realms anyway so that the land would become wiped (due to being public). That's the closest I could probably get to having a full map wipe. And what about the Nether - will it get wiped?
