Problem
One land wipe on its own will leave us with 50x50 really out of place realms. For example a extreme hills biome 50x50 realm is placed in the middle of the ocean after the wipe. If you have played minerealm for a while you probably have noticed some of these huge misplaced realms.

Solution
The idea is very basic. Allow staff to wipe realms even after the big public land wipe, however they would only be able to wipe beta 1.8 land and once it was updated it would no longer be available to be wiped.

Why not have just one public wipe?
Well for a few reasons. Players that are active now will not always be that active and likely their realms will disband leaving abandoned griefed realms with old beta 1.8 land. By allowing staff to handle the realm wipes, they can check out the old realm and manually wipe it, giving new 1.7 land that fits right into the map! Also this will be very interesting game play by making new land open up every now and than yielding new things to explore!

Benefits
-Players will get to preview the realms they own after the wipe, to decide if they want to wipe it.
-Staff can wipe old disbanded and griefed realms.
-Map will flow together much better as time goes by and realms disband.
-New terrain will regenerate constantly as old realms disband.

Cons
-No cons. Staff would be handling the manual wipe.

Note: Minerealm would have a general public land wipe, then after that staff would manually wipe realms.

Please ask questions if clarification is needed, and note its not final we will do a public land wipe but its very likely. Please feel free to give input on this.

Are you sure? Are you really sure? I can think of more cons than pros.
  • Way too much pressure on staff
  • Extreme inconsistencies in land formation. Forget what you just said, having 50x50 older realms everywhere next to 1.7 new land pockets is just ridiculous.
  • New 1.7 land won't necessarily fit into older private terrain, Intelli is working on that
  • Possibilities of large disagreements when staff wipe a realm someone was working on
  • Only wiping beta 1.8 land is stupid as most of it is private anyway, including the majority of spawn

There isn't going to be a public wipe, so there is no need. It would look like a 12 year old tried to run a server and had thousands of chunk errors.

I'm not sure, but I think you may have misunderstood the suggestion. He means that, assuming there is already going to be a full public wipe, staff will also be able to wipe realms that are currently private should they disband sometime afterward, so that there are less random 50x50 areas that don't fit in, not more.

There is still most likely going to be a public wipe of some sort; people just didn't like Intelli 's idea of wiping all credits chests etc

You read this all wrong. I don't think it will be that hard on staff. Anyway we do it there will be extreme inconsistencies in land formation, unless we did a full wipe. However this suggestion will over time minimalize these inconsistencies. Also I highly doubt staff will have disagreements about wiping a realm that no one lives on... Why in the world would they wipe a realm someone is building on? We have about a total of two basic concepts to choose from, a full wipe, and a public wipe. A public wipe will still leave odd looking realms out there, and the point is to convert the map to 1.7 not keep the old land. I also am not going to rely on Intelli to code some sort of elaborate way to wipe the map due to the fact that I am still waiting on Guild System 2.0 which came out a very very long time ago.

i'd much rather prever the "/realm wipeable" comand TeeJay was talking about, so you get to review the map from intelli and can decide if you like private realms to wipe too or not

so you use the comand bevore the wipe and staff won't have to much work.
also the land can be smoothed in much better than let staff wipe one realm after another during the game after the wipe
