(I know that there would be more crap again relatively soon if there was a pubic land wipe, at one point awhile ago Intelli mentioned something about finding a way to make it easier for staff to allow players to clean up abandoned builds, I'm really interested to read more about this)
I've been mulling over the idea of a sort of land bank for awhile, I wonder if there would be enough interest?
It would work something like this:
There would be a land bank committee that would decide on how the land bank funds were spent (which realms to purchase) though any player could suggest realms to be purchased.
Players would donate credits to the land bank fund (Intelli would you be willing to allow the donations to be made tax free?)
The problem lies with who would the credits be donated to? One player would have to be the leader of the land bank and would have to keep the land bank credits separate from their own credits. It would have to be someone trustworthy and also someone who's not going to go inactive or all the land bank realms would just become public again. (Unless Intelli would allow and be willing to code something that would allow the donations to go to some internal game account and be used to purchase realms by the leader(s) of the land bank committee)

I believe that structures in public realms should be preserved, and are a strong part of the servers identity and heritage.
I was using the random teleporter recently to look for dungeons. One of the places I was taken to was amazing. It looked like an old guild had disbaned There was serveral buildings and quite a lot of other work in teraforming and road, etc. I though, this would be a tragedy if it was griefed or lost. I made a note of the coords, and moved on. I would like to eventually buy these realms to preserve them. I fear a public land wipe would erase them forever.
