If we did do this public land wipe there should be a plugin made so that.

1. Wipes out of date public land even after the land wipe with /realmwipe. The reason for this is that realms that are out of date will someday go public and when they do go public they will just be huge hideous old realms no one wants. I see a lot of these on the map currently. And the solution to this is to allow players to wipe a public realm they see of the old map to use /realmwipe.

2. Allow players with realms to wipe the realm and still own it.

1 & 2 could be done after the land wipe. If we do a public land wipe both 1 & 2 will be very beneficial to the server, because we do not want ugly disbanded public realms anywhere, and it will greatly help reduce the effect of the wipe. If the owner of the realm doesn't like how his realm looks with the wipe he can choose to wipe it anytime he likes. Could this be abused? No. If anything all this would do is make the land much better and would not hurt the server.

Note: Just in case a situation would occur in which someone wipes the wrong realm or wipes a realm they weren't supposed there should be a way to reverse it with staffs help.

Its been mentioned countless times that this could be abused by people resetting their realms in order to get the ores again, but I believe this was suggested in a thread a while back, and roobean suggested that it should only wipe the land from a certain lvl up. like from lvl 50 or 60 and up, so valuable ores wouldnt just be copied over and over.

Link me.

Extending the map creates lag initially because people may walk around to generate land. If public land were wiped, the same would happen. Once it's all generated, no more lag.
I can't seem to find a link, but I recall a comment from Mojang with the general message that they're trying to fit as much as they possibly can into 1.7, because they know that people don't like major terrain updates, and that, if possible, they want this to be the last, at least for quite a while.

Not that kind of reset. The player would only be allowed to wipe beta 1.8 terrain and once it's 1.7 terrain they would not be able to wipe it again

Well, the only problem with a public land wipe for me is that I'm currently working on a few realms that are in public until i can save up at least 100k to buy them all. So, if this were to happen, I think people should have a say in which realms shouldn't be wiped (or something to the sort) as lots of new players also have houses in public since they haven't saved enough credits to buy a realm yet. I really do think we should wipe certain parts of the map though, but maybe what we could do is wipe the realms that haven't been touched in a certain amount of time (if that's even possible). I do believe the terrain has an effect on which new players stay and go, though.

I voted for 2,3 and 4 for the reasons as follows:

Option 2
I believe that the terrain in public realms has a strong impact on gameplay.

I think this goes without saying, there is another suggestion, by intelli that asks if we need more trees.

Option 3
I believe that structures in public realms should be preserved, and are a strong part of the servers identity and heritage.

I was using the random teleporter recently to look for dungeons. One of the places I was taken to was amazing. It looked like an old guild had disbaned There was serveral buildings and quite a lot of other work in teraforming and road, etc. I though, this would be a tragedy if it was griefed or lost. I made a note of the coords, and moved on. I would like to eventually buy these realms to preserve them. I fear a public land wipe would erase them forever.

Option 4
I believe that public realms should occasionally be wiped, especially for large updates such as Minecraft 1.7

I feel about as strongly about this comment as I do about opinion #3, maybe more so. I would like to see the builds preserved but I also know that map/server updates in turn with game updates are critical. I would suggest, on a limited basis, there would be provisions to accomodate builds on public realms not being wiped.

I was on the fence for opinion 6 but got hung up on the words "stale" and "outdated". It would be nice to see new stuff on the current map. I think wiping a map just because it is "stale" goes against the legit nature of the server. I assumed that intelli was not referring to trivial stuff but the new stuff the upcoming update would provide. In that context, I cannot agree with opinion #6.

I believe if there is a map wipe players should be able to reserve public realms thus making sure they will not be wiped. I have a build on one realm, but up top it extends onto three public realms, and it would be a shame if this was wiped.

Make a note of this please Intelli!
