The Arena Is Accepting Donations! We are currently trying to rack up the Realm Credits needed to create the stadium we've dreamed of. Better than Kurachi Stadium. Better than Terranobyl Stadium. But we need the Realm Credits to make it happen! If you are willing to donate, type /realm credits give panthers17nfl <desired donation> when I'm online! If I'm not here, feel free to donate them instead to Kerovon or Jtcanon (both other staff members) who will then send them to the Arena! Drop me a message to let me know you donated so I can put your name in the future Grand Hall of the Arena as a donor!
Vidunalis Arena is officially playable, although not complete! Expect some fights >>
For the past few days, Jtcanon and I have been working to build an ELO Rating System from scratch to use in MineRealm. For those of you who don't know what an ELO system is: it can be defined as a mathetmatical formula used to determine and "rate" participants in a 1v1 environment. We see this in Chess, but also sometimes in Tennis, Boxing, etc. It is also a very popular method for use in online-game arenas, such as those we see in World of Warcraft. Our system sort of follows that pattern.
It is designed so that it rates you based on your overall win/loss ratio, categorizes you as a certain skill level (which may change over time as you play more), and computes a numeric value determining your estimated talent ability in this 1v1 environment. Not only that, but this number allows us to predict the chances of you winning a match against another player. What the ELO system we build also does is makes it so that if you have a high probability of winning the match (because the other player's ELO is very low), you will earn less ELO points for winning the match, as mathematically speaking, that is what you're expected to do anyway.
Every player by default starts at 1200 ELO, which puts them right in the middle of the D Class. This is considered the "average" ELO bracket. As players play more matches, it is expected that the median ELO level will shift more towards 1300 ELO, but for now, 1200 flat is what is considered average. Here are the brackets:
0-99: J Class
100-349: H Class
350-599: G Class
600-849: F Class
850-1099: E Class
1100-1300: D Class
1301-1500: C Class
1501-1700: B Class (Honored Title)
1701-1900: A Class (Revered Title)
1901-2000: S Class (Exalted Title)
2001-2100: Gladiator Class (Illustrious Title)
2101-2200: Champion Class (Sublime Title)
2201-2300: Legendary Class (Elite Title)
By titles, I mean this: I am trying to see if good ol server founder Intelli would approve of providing either in-game tags or website ones for players who achieve a certain ELO, as it truly says something about their abilities as a pvp'er. It isn't confirmed that we will get these, but who knows.
Equipment: As is standard with Season 1, here is the required gear criteria for ranked fights:
-Full Health
-1 Wooden Sword
The following is gear that we have not confirmed for Season 1, but is being considered:
-1 Bow
-32 Arrows
-1 Flint and Steel
-1 Lava Bucket
-1 Mushroom Stew
Officially Recognized Season 1 Arenas
Vidunalis Arena: 150m from spawn. 100x100 property. Under construction.
Lodnir's Battlegrounds: 5,100m from spawn. 30x30 property. Retired.
Note: The first 10 matches do not consider the player "ranked". So if the player has only 7 wins but is in C Class, he is still unranked. The 11th game will begin him in a real ranking. This ranking is what is used to place him in brackets for tournaments, and possibly qualify him for certain tournaments. Later in the season, for example, some tournaments may require: "50 wins or more only!" or "B Class and up!" or "1100-1500!" or "100 games played!" Players are not allowed to participate in official tournaments until they are ranked.
Beta Test Pre-Season Ratings Wiped! In order to create an accurate kickoff to Season 1, all ratings in the beta testing pre-season have been reset to 1200.
