I prefer 6 but I guess 4 is fine.

For users with OptiFine, you can have it so that previous loaded chunks stay loaded.
It makes it very nice if View Distance is limited.

I'd very much rather it stay at 6.
It's just what I'm use to. The server seems to run fine on it without the need to make any unnecessary changes, especially one that limits the view for players.

Been too long since I've even played minecraft, let alone log onto minerealm in any way.
And yet I still haven't forgotten the times I've had here - it really was fun while it lasted.

I read the poll as which view distance do you prefer? So I prefer max distance

Not trying to sound selfish at all, but I invested some funds into my computer build and would like to get the most out of it playing MC. I will say that when you enter an area, and you can see the whole structure all in one place or all the amazing structures @ spawn without missing parts, is a really nice view.
But I'm fine with whichever for max viewing distance, that's why we have the world map right?

Is it possible to make the view distance dependent on proximity to other players? e.g. if you're completely alone in your corner of the world, you have a view distance of 4/5/6 (whatever the poll decides), but if someone else is a few chunks away, the chunks that are normally visible to them but not you will be added to your viewing area.

This wouldn't increase the total number of chunks that are being rendered on the server, since the "additional" chunks you get to see already had to be there for someone else's "normal" viewing range.

I play on tiny render with optifine and my screen made very small for me

. I say 4, because not all of us can load far render distance with fancy graphics, and 3 accounts running at once. I think everyone can play on normal and be happy.
