So, at the time of making this post, I've switched the servers view distance from 6 to 4.
The benefit of this is that the client has to render less data, resulting in a higher FPS. As well, there's less client for the data to load, so people on slow connections will have less chunk delay.
The downside of this though, of course, is that you won't be able to see as far.
So, I'm leaving it up to you guys. Is it fine now with the lower view distance, or would you prefer to have the extra 32 blocks of view distance back?
Please ensure you test out playing in-game before voting.
For reference, a view distance of 3 means you can see 3x16 (48) blocks in each direction.
