Question:
How did everyone become fans of the show? I used to lurk this thread ever since it started because the comics were funny. One day, I walked by my sister watching "The Last Roundup", and sat down to watch it. I don't know how I got past the mushiness of it all, but I ended up thinking it was hilarious. I posted it here, and you guys responded. Then I watched all 3 seasons in a week.

Well, it all started off just messing around on youtube for me, some pony related things that held my interest with ease. Can't remember exactly what it was, though I think it was music.
Moved up to fan-fiction, a few stories here and there. Nothing like the show, really, but it gave me a little inspiration to write a bit, myself. I could never really pick a topic to stick with without feeling the story was too random, and MLP gave me a target audience, and plenty of leeway.
But of course, you can't write much about something without actually knowing the characters and such, so I watched a few episodes.
Before I knew it, I had watched the entire first season.
All it was to be was a bit of fodder for a story or two, a little practice on writing. If you told me it'd turn into a lasting hobby, I'd have laughed at you and called you crazy.
I'm glad it did though, the community is nice, the show isn't too bad, the stories generated from it are all pretty interesting, a lot of the art is amazing, the inside jokes are funny, and you'll never know who you'll meet.
A lot of the reason I'm still interested in it is because of the fan-base, they all started me on it, and they're all keeping me hooked.

I just don't get it, guys. I don't get it.

How do you enjoy anything? There are certain things you like about it. things that attach you, such as comedy, relation to a character, the storyline, lessons, etc...
That's how.
I like it because of character relation; I'd probably be most like RD and my best friend definitely classes as a Pinkie. It's really hard to not flip out at him sometimes. He also has many cases of things Pinkie does, such as popping out of nowhere. I don't know how he does it. There's, of course, more things to relate to.

I like it because of comedy; not only is there stuff for kids, they do stuff for older watchers too. There's an episode called "Keep Calm And Flutter On", which I'm pretty sure isn't something a five year old would think is funny. And of course, we all remember the scene where RD wakes up Fluttershy xD If you don't, here it is:

I like it because of the lessons; no character is anywhere near perfect. Pinkie seems to have some sort of insecurity problems (Party Of One), Twilight seems to be OCD, Rainbow Dash is arrogant, Applejack never wants to burden anyone by asking for their help, Rarity is a drama queen, Fluttershy is.. shy, and more. Also, there is some actual good stuff to be learned. I still play Guess Who with my sister after every time I see Sisterhooves Social.

I like it because of the community; the fans are awesome. 'Cept two certain groups, the "ERMAGERD NU SHUW IZ BETAR DEN DIS AL BOW" and another one you can guess. But the rest of them are pure awesome and generally nice and funny people. Not to mention fanart, fanfics, fan music, fan parodies, Apple Fritter, Apple Bumpkin, Red Gala, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious... oh wait, the last five aren't parts of the fandom. They're parts of the Apple Family. But there's more in the fandom too that I like.

So, yup. I'm pretty sure at least one of those clips made you smile, or you thought it was a bit funny. Don't judge a book by its cover. Honestly, I thought the show looked like something a two year old might like and thought bronies were stupid when I saw this thread start up and learned about bronies (heh heh, sorry ) Now I'm fond of the show. There's even more aspects than what I put here that I like.

Uh, costumes? Dress up and role playing is popular among any fandom of anything, ever. Star wars, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, what else could you expect? Some people enjoy it.
But you'll never see me dress up like that, for anything, no matter how popular it is.

The fervor is, I suppose, an opinion. I wouldn't so much consider it passionate or intense as just pleasant.

As for the fandom, I'm sure that's been explained.
But if not, here's my two cents from the last time someone wondered about why it's liked, as hippoface did:

Honestly, I don't watch the show anymore, but I stick around for the fan fics, the art, music, inside jokes, and over-all kindness of the general fandom. Some members get out of line with their obsessions on the show, true, but extremists over anything have rarely helped peoples view on it.

It's understandable that some people don't like it, just like some people don't like Doctor Who, some people don't like Star Wars or Star trek, or Twilight, or whatever, but basically, It's a nice, simple show with a nice, simple fandom and some interesting and entertaining things because of it.

A lot of explanations as to why people like the show are on page 204, where pretty much the same question was asked and answered, a lot.

I wasn't really interested until a friend showed me a clip of Pinky Pie bouncing like Pepe le Pew. My interested was piqued and I started watching. I've watched all of the first two seasons, but haven't had a chance to watch any of the third, yet.

My favorite episode so far? MMMystery on the Friendship Express. :3
