Put simply, PS4 won the console war today. Not only is it realeasing at $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, it has no DRM crap and slightly superior specs. They also announced a heap of great new games such as a new Kingdom Hearts, FFv13 and revealed lots of other (non exclusive but still amazing) games like Destiny and the amazing looking 'The Division'

Although I'm a steadfast PC gamer, if there is any console of the next gen I will be buying, it will be the PS4 hands down. A fantastic concept in every respect and everything anyone could have hoped for for the system.

If you were an Xbox fanboy, there is no time better than now to swap to Sony.

I disagree I still think the xbox is the better investment, yes it has some flaws but I think it is still the best way to go.

I for the record am not an Xbox fanboy

I had a lot of hope for the Xbox, and for the last gen would have definitely considered myself an Xbox player rather than a PS3 one, as I owned both. However, Microsoft has been very disappointing and I fail to see how you could call it 'the better investment'. The console is more expensive, has worse specs, and prevents you from playing games if you do not log in at least once every 24 hours. On top of that, MS has changed their privacy policy to allow them to potentially film you with the Kinect, which by the way, is required to be plugged in for the console to function.

In terms of privacy, the Xbone is already disturbing, then chuck in the extra factors like the no-used-games and no game sharing and you have yourself a no-go.

I just see no sensible reason to purchase an Xbox One at this point in time.

I have to agree that the ps4 definitely sounds better. I can't pre-order due to lack of money, but I will get one eventually. :3

People are completely misunderstanding the used game policy set out by microsoft. Game developers can opt in or out of this, meaning that it is up to developers whether their games can be sold on or not.

People are complaining about buying games and not being able to sell them on, look at steam you buy a game its on your hard drive its stuck there you cant sell it on or trade it in. Yet steam makes millions of sales.

Most people are jumping to conclusions without actually reading into the facts.

Edit: game developers have been complaining for quite some time about second hand game shops making money from selling on games and they don't see a penny of it, microsoft are the first to make the step forward sony will follow in the future.

Sony was confident enough that they will stick to their policy that they specifically, clearly stated that PS4 will not restrict used games. To make a statement like that, you'd better be 100% confident that you aren't going to retract it. If Sony ever plans on following Microsoft's lead, I think it wouldn't be until the next generation of consoles, and who knows what the landscape of the gaming/console market will look like then.

And to reply to the OP, I do think Sony won this one, at least for now, assuming Microsoft doesn't seriously change their path between now and the release. Not only do I prefer Sony's policies/hardware/games, but they made it cheaper than the Xbox One which makes it a no brainer, for me anyway. I am actually considering pre-ordering a PS4 now, and a few weeks ago I wasn't even planning on getting a next-gen console.

true they will probably not adjust this during the current generation, but developers are pushing for less games to be sold second hand, so I think sony will follow suit on what microsoft has done. I would not be surprised if the next generation is like steam, where you download your games no more discs.

Microsoft and sony have to keep game developers happy or they will not make games for their console, microsoft have taken a leap forward into keeping developers happy by giving them the option to opt in or out of the used game policy.

I am far from a playstation user but let's take these main facts into consideration on why people are flocking to PS4 over Xbox -

Used Games - Simple enough they have no restrictions on them, and game developers will probably be more strict on allowing it seeing as they are trying to go the pc route

The main issue with this is it's the exact reason why people bought consoles over pc games. You could rent/borrow them from friends, you didn't have to dish out $60 on a unfinished broken games(which seems to be all games lately) and finish them in a few hours since the stories are getting shorter and shorter. Console ports to pc are also imo why piracy is so high, if they didn't release crappy quality games for pc more people would purchase them, not to mention they are littered with bugs.

Backwards Compatability - Xbox's excuse has always been it cost more money to do such a thing, well PS4 is cheaper than the PS3 was at launch and has it so.... What's the excuse now?

Cross Platform Gaming/Exclusives - Again another feature PS has been dominate in, which is funny since you figure Xbox would be better suited as it's Microsoft, but yet the PS has all the cross platforming pretty much wrapped up and includes many games I play atm ex. Warframe, War Thunder, Blacklight

Xbox Live's 24 Hour Check-up - One of the biggest drawbacks is this main feature, not everyone has internet and to say they do is ridiculous, having to sign-on every 24 hours just to play offline ect is a bit extreme and not a good focus on a system. "Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

Region Locking - Just recently PS has announced the PS4 will not be region locked like the Xbox, which is another big feature people were focused on, pushing PS4 more over to it's favor.

Launch Price - This one is iffy, I mean yeah the PS4 is touting it is $100 cheaper over the Xbox but when you look into it, the PS4 doesn't include the PS Eye but even still if you look the eye will only be $60 so you'd still save about $40.

Playstation Plus/XBL - I saw this fay coming and have always warned Playstation user it will happen but PS+ is now a requirement to play online like XBL. But note it is $50 a year where as Xbox is still $60.

So in short, PS4 is winning by a long shot, many Xbox users are already flocking over, with the addition of greater support for indie developers the Playstation is picking those up from xbox as well. Xbox has a bumpy road ahead unless they can dish out something better.

Pff, I'll just be waiting until Destiny is released, and then buy whatever console has sold the most units.

Xbox still has the advantage of more users in their current ecosystem, and better exclusive games. If they can drop the price to $450, they might have a fighting chance.

But really, at this point, it's up to Sony and how well they market the console to the average consumer.
